DPF cleaning

Despite occasional fast trips in lower gear to attempt to get the DPF to regenerate, the check engine light keeps coming on ever more frequently. The fast trips usually clear it but as soon as I revert to our more usual short hops it soon complains again. Is there an additive anyone can recommend that I can use to help keep it clean?

Yes there are lots of cleaning agents available here is one of many on eBay

We done a trip on June/july (ducato 130) the dpf light kept coming on, the van wouldn’t do a regen due to a glow plug error, the glow plugs need to be working to pre heat the diesel prior to the regen. I’ve now had the dpf deleted out of the ecu and done the necessary to the dpf itself.
The van is driving spot on with no issues, currently on week 4 of travelling France again.
My previous van ( slightly older) had exactly the same engine but no dpf.
If you consider the dpf is to filter particles out prior to to them going out the exhaust then when a regen is due the system dumps diesel into the dpf to burn it off then imo another case of zero emissions gone mad.

Isn't that an MOT failure and a hefty fine if you're caught?

I've read conflicting info on this in the past.
Yes it is as is deleting Adblue. And the consequences are scary if your caught.

If you're caught deleting your vehicle's DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) or AdBlue system, you face significant consequences, including
fines, a failed MOT test, an invalidated car insurance policy, and potential vehicle warranty issues. It is illegal to remove these emission control systems, as they are essential for reducing harmful pollution, and doing so makes your vehicle non-compliant with emissions regulations, rendering it illegal for road use.

Just to clarify the dpf is still in place and doing what it should it has been deleted out of the ecu tho to stop throwing up the error.

I don't think that a lower gear helps much. Climb a mountain fully loaded instead.

Yes, but it’s still illegal, and the consequences if caught are scary.
In effect you are driving uninsured.
It’s your choice, but I would seriously consider reestablishing the system.
The consequences of not doing so greatly outweigh the issues involved in using the system. I know the chances of being caught are slim, but the consequences are so scary, I would be worried driving about without it.

I’ll talk to the lad who did it for me and ask about reinstating it see what he says
That makes real sense Gypo, I honestly would hate to see you being involved in a serious accident which involved personal injury and losing everything you have worked for all of your life. I know that may sound dramatic, but it could come to that Gypo.
And well done for listening, that says a lot for you. (y)

A mate of mine offered to delete it on my wifes car AND bypass the DPF, he reckons that it's not traceable unless they are really looking for it.

I didn't see how it could pass on emissions without the DPF so I declined and just bought a new DPF in the end.
Rob, you know how insurance works, if your wife was involved in a serious accident involving a six figure claim or more, they would go through her car with a fine tooth comb looking for a way out. It’s simply to risky Rob.
