All depends on your licence .remember when you convert to m,home it is no longer a bus for driving licence needs. it can make insurance difficult to get. also there is a spec of what makes it a m,home. make lots of inquirey,s to dvla and your local mot station to find what you need.

Yup it may be changed into a private HGV.

double decker buses

passed my psv on an old leyland double decker with crash gearbox(it's now in canada).
it wasn't the first word in comfort and boy did i feel those bumps (it's why i have a bad back now).
they didn't have power steering and i have been known to stand up in the cab with my feet on the dash turning the wheel.
i agree about the condensation, you would have to put double glazing in.
the licence issue should'nt be a problem as long as you passed your test before the 3.5 tonne rule came in.
there is certainly loads of space in them.
have driven double decker busses over to spain on the motorways so i can't see a problem in that.
if it were me i would sooner pick up a reasonable single decker.

probably a better choice would be an ex prison van usually highly maintained fairly low mileage water tanks windows and heating already fitted and cheap

Bus licence was taken off people in 1992 .To keep it you had to pay 20quid get a signed avadavit and get a medical .Thats only for non hire n reward. If you didnt you can only drive up to 16 seats on a d1 licence. But i would imagine a double decker would come into the over 7.5 tonnes so cant be driven as a camper on a c1 either .
Think hard about your decision even to convert a coach,its not as easy as it was a few years ago . I used to have a bedford duple bella vega 32. sold it and turned to trucks as you get much less hassle in a truck.
bought a dodge 13 tonner made a great camper. but now use an artic. saves towing a car. and have room for m,bikes in back.

hi peppers , have a daf 45 ex prison truck sat in my garden at the moment . built it 2 years ago for my mate .no water tank but made a good camper. his is now bright purple (purple dreams)quite well known is bob .he had a dodge 50 purple haze , hopefully spain bound on sunday. if the ferries running. cheers alan.

this is my little bus sleeps 4 with no problems with table chairs/cooker/fridge/etc

Now that is the kind of bus which cleans up the prizes. If you want a bus, do one like this!

I think the the first thing you need to do is unbolt the seats and sell them so it can't carry a load of passengers. Then get it changed to a LGV or HGV. Send the photos to Adrian Flux and explain what you are doing. They will generally insure you without too many restrictions and you have 6 months to do the actual conversion.

It's amazing in this market that risks are pretty low for an insurance company. Generally limited mileages and sensible owners (not boy racer types) who are just making body mods not performance mods. But the general insurance market does not want to know.

Should you do a bus conversion .You must notify dvla and either send pics or let them inspect the vehicle after the conversion. Then they put m,home on the log book .Thats the important bit, as mot and insurance then know it is a m,home. different mot for campers to trucks n buses . It can be done its not that hard but some people struggle to get all the correct routine right ,then get confused with where to go next. at one time you just did what you wanted filled in the logbook sent it off it came back m,home. I say have a chat with your local dvla office ask for their definition of a m,home work with them and it can all go smooth.
the licecing is something else to talk with them about,get it right as it can be expensive if you do it wrong.
still dont know what licece op. as got ,come on tell us .we cant keep guessing.
