Hey Guys I got a reply from Angus!!!!
Much to my surprise, and credit to him he has replied very quickly. Only a couple of lines (sent from his Blackberry) but it seems to be good news.

Thank you for your email

Actually to clarify I floated 3 options regarding camper vans on ferries. you will be pleased to know, I hope, that the consensus was to retain the travel concessions for camper vans.

Hope that helps ... Papers and the silly season spring to mind :)

See you in the hebrides soon I hope

Angus

So it does sometimes happen that MP's respond to written correspondence

The Western Isles has a recent history of depopulation due to the lack of any meaningful work, the crofting system only provides a subsistence income and many islanders need to have other jobs to keep their heads above water.
Many of the younger Islanders have left the Isles to find meaningful employment, leaving an aging population.
the answer to this problem is to build an economy that caters to the tourist, to encourage and offer those tourists services that would tease the pounds out of their pockets.
Alas, those places are few and far between and last year we positively craved somewhere to spend some money.
Instead of bleating about Camper vans, that pin head McNiel should be seeking some Scottish Government Grants, to provide the sort of stimulus for us as visitors to inject a bit of money to create a sustainable tourist Industry.
A few places to eat a decent meal would be a start.

I agree totally with what you say, but the Islanders have to get themselves organised and do a bit for themselves too. A couple of good websites would be a start:) The local businesses could put together a collective website (or linked to each other) showing what services then can provide,

As an example I pulled this link off these forums earlier today, This website is an excellent example of a small place promoting itself to tourists. Such a nice site I e-mailed the webmaster to say how much I liked the thoughtful way it was laid out, turns out the guy is a clockmaker and has a shop in the town:cool:

This website clearly indicates where there is parking in different locations for M/H's, where the the nearest fuel station is, info on the craft and food shops, local Police phone number etc. I even noted that the local delicatessen do a "packed picnic lunch to order" service so my wife doesn't have to get up at the crack to make the sarnies before we go off hiking -what a great idea:cool:

have a look see what you think? Visit Tomintoul the gateway to Cairngorm National Park

We have just got back from touring quite a few islands, and loved what we saw, loved the people and had a great time. Will post more later, after I have browsed my 400 emails which arrived while I was away

Island MP slams rise in camper van visits - The Sunday Mail

Seems to me this M.P. isn't too keen on us, do you think his constituents will be happy?

I can assure you that Angus MacNeil is not against Camper Vans/Motor Homes, most of what you read in the press is them making a mountain out of a molehill. There are always the odd few people that will moan about anything so now it is the turn of the M/Homers on the Islands, all in all the trades people have welcomed the extra business that you the motorhomers have bought in to the Islands.
Ferry fares are now roughly half the price of last year mainly due to RET on Cal Mac ferries thanks to the Scottish Goverment.

I'm fed up with people making mountains out of mole hills.
My old transit has a hard job climbing them as it is.
