Top notch health and safety by miles,its a wonder they have any hands left with acid burns ,never mind what goes into the ground,if they came over here they would think us all nuts turfing thing away.
We never 'throw away' batteries, gf has her scrappers licence and they go to the local yard, she's been known to stop and pick up batteries from side of road.
Never taken one apart but many times emptied them out an while upside down flushed out with garden hose thoroughly left to drain refilled with fresh acid and recharged can,t remember if it made them as good as new but it did extend their life
We used to have big open batteries at work they were about three foot square, we used to use a stick to knock off any spikes between the lead plates in each cell, happy days
