Three way fridge freezer with rotary temperature control with vertical led lights.
Lights normally correspond to setting but they just appear as on max all the time.
Fridge still works.

Any ideas?

The plastic knobs on some Dometic fridges are very "soft", and have been known to split at the end of the shaft (particularly if turned hard against the end-stop).
The net effect of this is that they don't engage properly with the flat on the shaft of the electronic control, and thus turning the knob has no effect.
Try removing the knob by pulling outwards and turn the spindle with a pair of pliers.

If that doesn't work this may help. Cloned off the web.

Well with the help of my Apprentice Jan. we set about getting to the circuit board behind the control panel .Using a pairs of pliers I gently teased off the 2 control knobs, Now there are 2 screws where the knobs came out of, 1 in each Hole After removing the front panel (Beware the panel has wiring attached and will not come away fully). Now we can see the housing where the circuit board is located, On the front are 2 screws at each end, unscrew these and the Black box should slide forward, Ok it will not come all the way out if the wiring loom goes through the cable holder on the back of the box, so again some teasing to get the cables out of the holder, once done the box will come out enough to remove 3 screws on the top of the box. Gently lift the lid off and the circuit board is exposed, ( there is a Fuse on this board, must remember about that if any electrical problems} now I am looking at the temp control it just turns and turns (parts are knob with long tube attached to a plastic spindle then the switch potentiometer, A rotating resistor switch) the tube end is ok, the Problem is the small rotating spindle that fits between the knob and the switch ,it has a small round end that fits into the switch and this as snapped of flush with the switch. .So I have got a new spindle and control Knob, But the switch is the problem. There is a bit of the spindle left in the switch and I am unable to draw it out, so I drill a small hole in the piece of plastic, and screw in a small screw. Yes it came out, being careful not to pull to hard and crack the circuit board. So it’s just push in the new spindle Put the 2 control knobs back on, switch fridge on, and Hey Presto, I can now turn the temperature up and down, So its cover back on, slide box back, fit the 2 screws to hold it back in place, fit the front cover and put in the screws and Knobs .

Took me 45 minutes and cost £5 plus £6.48 for 3 glasses of wine(after 2 days of decorating I thought When a voice said are we going for a pint? I would be treated for all the paint fumes I had to inhale No such Luck ). Oh and the Beer was 25p Off £1.85 a pint in spoons last night. So all in all a good day

Of course Thank you to MY supervisor and Apprentice Jan. Who held the torch and remembered where I had placed the spindle for safe keeping, Otherwise I would have replaced the switch.

Think I will stick with tugging my knob.
Much easier than removing the bloody thing.

It's a common fault, I'm afraid. As already said, it's the control Knob that has sheared. The replacement is supposed to be more robust, but we now leave the fridge on a "mid way", setting.

Spindles splitting, rounding off etc and ill fitting in general is often the woe on Dometic fridges, and to a lesser extent hobs.

Before you start dismantling hobs and fridges always the first thing to check.

You might find a knob from an old radio or tv will do the job ?

Maplins or Radiospares might be able to supply.

Took knob off and the d shape locator looks fine.
Knob turns it from 12 o clock to 9 o clock as it should without any wild spinning.
Will test it in action this week in the Peak District. Hope my Champers doesn't freeze!

Tally Ho!

Wow thanks.

As comprehensive a reply as I could have wished for.

Any idea of the part number to get the yellow knob?

A couple of weeks ago I posted a contact I had picked up for Dometic spares from another FB page - seems to have disappeared.

Here it is again

Annabel is an absolute guru on anything to do with Dometic and she has access to detailed drawings. She identified the broken parts and they arrived 48 hours later as promised. Fridge fixed, as new.
Leisure-Serve UK also have a service engineer to carry out repairs. They attend midlands shows and are able to service / repair / replace faulty gas jets and burners while you enjoy the show. Contact Annabel on 07768 980160

Took about half an hour.

Grey internal knob had sheared off but just managed to extract tiny bit from PCB.

Temp control lights now change. Hoorah.

Just back from ten days in France with a max fridge.

However this still does not solve the mystery of the gas working and the next day randomly giving up the ghost for a day or two.

Ok we were correct re spindle, first time you have mentioned gas,,,,is it cutting out in use , or failing to ignite after using another source i.e 240 v ? lets see if we can narrow things down for you

Works all the time on 240v.
Works maybe half the time on gas.
Flame nice and bright all the time, igniter good and peppy.
Just seems to refuse to cool down even though fins get warm.
I have backup fans for cooling as well.

Usually after travel.

If it was soot or burner issue it would not work. When it does it goes nice and cold.

Basically a random non working problem on gas.

When on mains do the fins get Hot.I would suggest a flue problem it may be the heat diffuser is jammed in some way so it's not diffusing the heat I am assuming the burner jet is ok.

It would pay to try on mains if the fins get get a gas service on the fridge if you are unsure of doing it yourself.

The gas / flame is controlled via the themostat which in turn is controlled via the electronic module ..so I would say the module is faulty or at the very least you have a poor connection there.Unplug the module and give the connections a googLe clean ( tooth brush is ideal ..us the wifes lol ) seriously give it a go .
