I notice that in my Dometic Fridge manual, it shows you how you can remove the freezer compartment. I presume that this would make the fridge more efficient (to keep it at say 5C?), and obviously give more room. I don't use the freezer that much anyway. Has anyone done this?
 
I seldom use the freezer compartment on mine and the default is to use the whole appliance as a fridge. .
When not in use the freezer compartment is stored under the fixed bed ready for use if I do need it.

It can be a bit fiddly to remove / replace (especially the locking clips), but practice makes perfect and I can usually manage with only a couple of profanities. .

According to the blurb the freezer has "a patented design for easy removal" - but I can't find it in the installation downloads!

To remove the freeze compartment
1) Undo two clips
2) Pull
3) Swear
4) Pull again
5)Job Done

Replacement
1) Push
2) Swear
3) Repeat steps 1 & 2 several times
4 Push and hold in two clips
5) Swear
6) Job Done

Yes - we removed the freezer about 2 years ago to get more fridge space. Instructions are in the Dometic 9435 Manual. Bit fiddly as I recall to release spring-loaded catches and sliding trays out in a restricted space, but doable. When you have removed the freezer box, the instructions make sense ...

We did use ours without the freezer but as I recall it didn’t make much difference. Ours is very erratic. In this weather it rarely meets 5* and is often 9* sometimes 11*. It does recover overnight and sometimes even has got down to 2* by the morning. The controls don’t seem to have much effect. I treat mine as a larder, and store items like chicken in the freezer compartment for a couple of days if not being used that day, although even then I don’t think it actually keeps it frozen it’s better than in the ‘larder’.
I would love anyone to tell me how to keep it at 5*.

a) Have you fitted fans to the vent?
b) Absorption or compressor?
 
Hi Dolomite Pete and Rob!!!! I was asking Tim about removing the icebox on mine when we were at Burton Bradstock the other day, Ican’t see any videos, its a Vitrifrigo C39I and bloomin tiddly, no icebox would give me nearly as much roomagain in the fridge if it wasn’t there….it looks more old fashioned that the newer ones…..anybody have any ideas if it comes out easily and would it be ok to remove it? Don’t want to knacker it. Its only 39L, the 15L alpicool I had before was much better space wise!!

I've got a Vitrifrigo C60I Mary but I don't think the freezer compartment is removable.

I'll go and have a look.
