Some 'dangerous' breeds are not only banned in France but also in most of the rest of the EU. These are: American staffordshire, English terriër, pitbull, fila brasileiro, tosa inu, akita inu, Argentine dog, bull terriër, mastiff, Rhodesian ridgeback, Bordelese dog, band dog and the rottweiler.
If your dog has an official pedigree of one of these breeds you have a problem. If not your vet could certainly have him transferred to a more gentle breed.(if no breed: streetdog ). Note: only American Staff is banned, not the ordinary one. (Consult your vet to amend the pet pasport )
Not all dangerous dogs are dangerous; only the misbreeds.

I read a story about a man who went to France in his narrow boat and used European canals and rivers. :D

He took his Whippet with him and it got a lot of attention as the French had not seen one before. :D

I can understand how such an elegant breed would be found attractive by the French with their sense of style.

Pick the bones out of that you Brummy nitwit.

Frosty, I would speak to DEFRA before getting too downhearted, I was a French resident up until last year with a British registered Rotty, I cann't say catagorically but I think it applies to their own dogs and not visiting animals, by the way it doesn't mean you cann't own a Rotty but they have to be under control at all times and you need to register them with the Marie, failing that get him a new passport with 'mongrel' on it.

ooohh you do make me smile :D

I think whippets are actually the least aggressive of any dogs, but the french or the chinese would still be checking in the recipe book ;)

I justed looked into this and I think you are right? Found this..

PROHIBITED:

IATA - France Customs, Currency & Airport Tax regulations details

We too have a staffie cross, and are planning to go to europe next year, but our Moo wears a cunning disguise of a fluffy hair do. But I will look into this future and let you know.

it seems that if you have a staff pedigree it is allowed into france but must wear a muzzle at all times in public. but if you have a staff cross it is banned from france no exceptions.

we have no children so you can imagine how pamperd the dog is and we would never leave dog behind it just seems sad that we will miss out on france

Only joking anyway . cant say as i,ve seen loads of muzzled dods in france . bet they never ask you at all. have fun cheers alan.

Do the French eat Rabbits?

If the answer is yes then my lot will be made welcome. :D

Staffy in france etc

Hi Frostybow in last 5 years we have had little problems visited 17 countries spending total of 34 months in Europe on 7 different trips returned 2 weeks ago from France passport clearly states Staffy.regards Otis the Staffy:cool:

That`s very good English grammar for a Staffy.

I would expect it of a Whippet of course.

My gast is slightly flabbered by this post.

When I originally visited France , I jumped through the normal hoops that my German Shepheard would get onto mainlaind europe with me has a travelling companion.

When confronted with French passport controL in Dover ... I duly showed my passport, asked about the hound ...and had the reply ' of course '

The point being my attention to ensuring my dog complied with the pets passport scheme was irrelevant.

TBH I could have picked up a stray hound from Dover and would have had a travelling companion ...I am being serious !!!...Entry to the UK is a different matter and all a bit silly IMHO.

My parents had two staffies ..in fact I was playmate to the first one ...way before they were a fashion accessory.

Interesting talking of accessoiries how the French seem to have adopted the Yorkshire terrier at the moment !!

Channa

Dogs are what you allow them to be !!!

I picked up a bite this year from a psychotic Jack Russel in Belgium.

grandmar

Hi Maingate it was my first post so please don't have a go at my Grandmar or she won't let me play again:)

You should really start a thread on the "new members introduce yourself" forum.

We need to know a little about you ie:

Are you a brindle, or maybe white with a cute little black eye patch. Are you KC registered and what kind of motorhome does your master/mistress have?

Do you know any nice quiet places to stop for the night where you can cock your leg?

Have you been spayed?

These are all the sort of things we need to know.

.

White with a cute little black eye patch ...never seen a staffy like that !!!.

More descriptive of an English Bull terrier...and yes they can be cute !!!

Eons ago my Uncle had one, My cousin dressed it in daft clothes even pushed it around in a dolls pram !!!

The fact its ears were half missing / or half there was more down to the fact He had a problem with other hounds !!!!...but he knew his place with people.

It is on the news today a child in liverpool has been killed by a dog so far the breed hasnt been revealed.

Tragic has this situation is ..I am far from comfortable with the easy labelling that a certain breed is this that and the other period.
