Loading POI to Camper 660
Hi,
One of our members is struggling to get the POI working on her Garmin Camper 660.
Does anyone have one that could give a step by step guide?
I believe there are several ways of skinning this cat.
One route, using Windows 10:
Download POI Loader from the Garmin website (Support - Downloads) and install it.
Download the Wild Camping POIs as a Zip file, open in WinZip (or otherwise) and copy Wild Camp.csv and Wild Camp.bmp (first version, path Garmin\) to an easily found folder (I used Garmin/POI 2107 recently) Also Pub Stop, Tap, Toilets, etc/etc Plus any others you want on your Camper 660, e.g the Hill database, LPG, that you may get from elsewhere. All in the same folder.
Connect your Camper 660 to the computer, probably using Garmin Express, which lets you update your maps.
Start POI Loader (from Start Menu, look under G, Garmin)
POI Loader should find your Camper 660. Otherwise click Find Device. Click Next. First time, you will just want to add POI's; later, you may want to remove current POIs first and then run the loader again to add new ones. Now Browse to find the folder where you saved the Wild Camp (etc) files. (I did say, put it in an easily-found folder). Set the process going and the POIs should load within minutes.
Hope this helps, but:
Camper 660 is very conservative if you are in Camper mode. Ours is 220 cm wide, 3.5 t but it still shows a max speed of 60 mph, and took us a wild-goose chase round a 7.5 t weight limit. I am planning further feedback to Garmin, but for the present I generally use car mode unless I anticipate narrow road problems, e.g. in Devon/Cornwall.
