Hi,

One of our members is struggling to get the POI working on her Garmin Camper 660.

Does anyone have one that could give a step by step guide?

I have a Camper 760 which I guess would be similar to the 660. However I use an iMac to download the poi’s and then load onto the Garmin and I don’t think it’s the same as a pc. I’m willing to try to help if the member uses a Mac.

Wooie is my go to person for my Garmin 760. Maybe ha can help?

I only have camper 760, but I just followed the Garmin download instructions from this site onto my Windows PC then used the POI loader onto the device.

After it was done I hit "Where to?" and scroll down and they are inside a folder called custom POIs.

As I drive around I see the symbols for the POI's on the map. Also you can get a list of nearby POI's near your location under "categories".

If you need more step by step I would be happy to help but the download instructions were pretty straightforward and worked first time.

Phil, mine is a 660 lmt-d, Europe 45 bought from Aldi in March 2016. Whilst I do not have the foggiest Idea how to do technical things to it, I have always had a member on here who would go out of their way to install and update it for me at the meets that Sue and I occasionally attend, and to those dear souls, thanks from a complete numpty

I don't know whether this is of use, but I've just found it on tinterwebbything http://cdn.billiger.com/dynimg/4CD4...r-660-LMT-D-EU-Bedienungsanleitung-b7b02c.pdf

Garmin 660

Hi
Yes I've got one and use a MacBook, so could give a summary if yours is also a Mac.

I have an older Garmin Dezl 560 in the motorhome and Garmin Nuvi in the car. Both accept custom POIs using the Garmin POI Loader, which I downloaded from the Garmin website (just Google Garmin POI loader) and installed on a Windows laptop. I've a feeling mine show up in 'Extras' rather than in 'Custom POIs' but I'll double-check that tomorrow... could just be my mind playing tricks :rolleyes2:

I can upload some screen shots of the process later when I'm by my PC if no one else answers before then.

Added info:

If you don't want to use the POI Uploader you could always put the .gpx files from the POI download (located in the GPS exchange format folder) directly into the folder named POI on the internal storage of your Garmin device, like this:

Connect device via USB cable with your computer
Copy the .gpx file to the folder named \POI on the internal storage of your Garmin device
Users of older devices may need to create a \POI folder manually
Disconnect Garmin device from Computer and restart
The POIs can be found in the “Where to” menu after clicking on “Categories” and then scrolling down to “Other categories” Older devices list the package under “Extras” in the “Where to” menu.

How to use POI Uploader (in pictures):

POI_Uploader_01.jpg POI_Uploader_02.jpg POI_Uploader_03.jpg POI_Uploader_04.jpg
POI_Uploader_05.jpg POI_Uploader_06.jpg POI_Uploader_07.jpg

You can download POI Uploader here

I'm using a Camper 760 but it's the same procedure on all Garmins except for the Zumo which is a motorbike satnav anyway.

Loading POI to Camper 660

Hi,

One of our members is struggling to get the POI working on her Garmin Camper 660.

Does anyone have one that could give a step by step guide?

I believe there are several ways of skinning this cat.
One route, using Windows 10:
Download POI Loader from the Garmin website (Support - Downloads) and install it.
Download the Wild Camping POIs as a Zip file, open in WinZip (or otherwise) and copy Wild Camp.csv and Wild Camp.bmp (first version, path Garmin\) to an easily found folder (I used Garmin/POI 2107 recently) Also Pub Stop, Tap, Toilets, etc/etc Plus any others you want on your Camper 660, e.g the Hill database, LPG, that you may get from elsewhere. All in the same folder.
Connect your Camper 660 to the computer, probably using Garmin Express, which lets you update your maps.
Start POI Loader (from Start Menu, look under G, Garmin)
POI Loader should find your Camper 660. Otherwise click Find Device. Click Next. First time, you will just want to add POI's; later, you may want to remove current POIs first and then run the loader again to add new ones. Now Browse to find the folder where you saved the Wild Camp (etc) files. (I did say, put it in an easily-found folder). Set the process going and the POIs should load within minutes.
Hope this helps, but:
Camper 660 is very conservative if you are in Camper mode. Ours is 220 cm wide, 3.5 t but it still shows a max speed of 60 mph, and took us a wild-goose chase round a 7.5 t weight limit. I am planning further feedback to Garmin, but for the present I generally use car mode unless I anticipate narrow road problems, e.g. in Devon/Cornwall.

Thanks for the information, I have down loaded 'POI Loader' and I think I got to what I wanted several time but its only down loading 5484 custom POI (which must be the toilets!!!!!) but with my retry's I have down loaded thses 4 time.

I can find them on the Camper 660, under Custom POI, but it only shows 'toilets' (WC)

Yes I know im not good with comuters, but when when I connect the garmin to the computter on look at its internal storage, it shows the ZIP files toilets october 2016 and AshMegan-86-144-212-64-POI.

I know this might sound silly, but when I use POI Loader, the page where 'Please select the folder where the datafiles can be found', using 'Browse' , I can get a hold of the actual ZIP file it's self.

If I said I have the ZIP file on my desk top, but cant seem to directly select the 'AshMegan-86-144-212-64-POI'.

Thing is its down t loaded teh toilets 4 time......... just dont know what to do.

Im also concerned that I have the 'toilets' down loaded 4 times........ nightmare

P.s I dont have internet access so this is why it has taken so long to reply. Thanks

Henry, Thanks for your 'diffent ways to skin a cat.
Route One, I got lost at 'Open in Win Zip', then end of that sentance lost me further.
Route two, I saw the remove bit which I have tried, as I noe have 4 copies of Toilets!!! but this did not remove them !!!.

I am just so scared to take it into a computer shop, and ask them to fix what ever mess I have done to the laptop with tring to save saving the item.

Thanks for trying

Methinks you've done it

Hi Ash,
I'm not sure that there are 5000 toilets....
From map, back button to get Where to? (and View Map)
Click Where To?
Click Categories on the right.
You can scroll down, but to prevent inadvertent presses on the way click the down arrow on the left, till you see Custom POIs
Click Custom POIs
Garmin
and you should see your POI groups (I have France / Pub Stops / Tap / Wild Camp)

(NB, I do also have Wild Camp lower in the same menu as Garmin - I should check which is obsolete)

If not, I'll have another look....

NB2 I don't see the Toilets category. Useful to check for refilling and emptying, if not too posh!

Are you unzipping the file on your desktop? If so when you browse for the POIs in POI Loader you should navigate to the Garmin folder inside the unzipped folder. All the POIs within the Garmin folder will get loaded to your Camper 660. If you need help unzipping the file post on here or PM me.
