I've just had mine done at my gp, was delt with by the lead gp partner, most of the time was for filling in the medical form, the blood pressure check and eye test were done by a nurse practicioner.

If you pay me £20 i will stamp a letter saying you are either dead or alive.
The dead bit is handy as council wont send rate bills any more, and no parking tickets.

this has taken a while to come up i needed my first over 70 check feb 2020 the wheels one and D4Drivers were biggest options but i heard at that time that the DVLC were no longer accepting their medicals, now had my third one with D4D each one a little more rigorous as they should be , i always have my eyes done before i go get new glasses if reg and take the prescription along this time oi actiually had to sign a statement that i did not intend to drive without suitable eyewear

Some countries (Canada is one?) show on actual licence if glasses have to be worn for driving....whatever the drivers age. Seems a much more sensible option, UK seems to avoid ensuring all drives can see properly. Trouble is that you can get used to subtle vision changes, regular eye tests should be compulsory for all drivers really IMHO.

As a type 2 diabetic, I get mine tested every year, but it's not a vision test.

After temporary loosing eyesight in one eye Moorfields have me in every year, couple of years ago I did ask if it was necessary as nothing has changed in years and I felt like I was wasting resources, but they said they want to continue.

I have (had) fairly good eyesight, worn mild prescription glasses since the 90's, but now, I find my distance for driving is ok. I can read the number plates, the dash & sat nav fine, but reading my phone has been difficult for a few years. Now the laptop is getting difficult to read stuff, and videos are more or less okay. Still, I'm due a new eye test now, but the cost is getting prohibitive though, it seriously pisses me off that I have to get new frames or pay an exorbitant amount to have my own re-glazed.

Never realised this...not exactly obvious is it? Plus it looks like the information is put on when you apply for provisional and only updated if you change it? Many people might need glasses after taking driving test when young....optician does not have to notify DVLA results, which is my point really. ALL drivers should have regular testing and result automatically available to DVLA.
