Dodgy gearbox?

Was the super snipe not the Humber ,I had a 1725 gt hunter with overdrive in 4 th and5th if I remember right and it had twin strombergs on it and went really well
Also dolomite sprint it was a flyer as well trev
Seem to remember some MGbs had them or am I dreaming again

Trev my big bruv had a sport imp thingy but in the bad weather and high winds going over the forth road bridge to Fife where he stayed we put a few bags of cement to hold the baha doon
I used to see that all the time, all nonsence mind you, let front tyres down to 20psi and drive then hard slidding round corners with the tail out, my tunned ones did the ton.

Oh dear trev sorry to say there here to stay , think you mean prop shaft
Yep and my van is like that thank heavens.

The problem was first and second gear badly worn, and yes they had to remove the gearbox to rebuild it. Like a new motor now.
Never had a g box wear the gears, mainly the syncro rings are first to go, esp first gear ones, this happens because folk dont put the cluth to the floor or change into first when moving to fast.

You may well be right Trev, although they gave me the faulty bits back, I actually had no idea what exactly I was looking at. 🧐🥺🧐😡

syncro rings are thin and a bronze colour, they fit at the end of a gear and move slightly left and right, the idea is they move to make sure the gear meshes with the other driving gear/hub.
Some times the hub or mating notches also wear, so both require new units.

Thanks for that Trev, I’ll get the gear out of the garage later, and have another look and see if there’s anything obvious.

'What gear were you in when you lost power?'
'Blue jeans, t- shirt, jacket and trainers. Why?' :ROFLMAO:
