Dip Stick Location

they never dreamt it up it’s been standard on many vehicles for years. When you look at all other liquid measurements in any vehicle they are all done this way, oil being the only one that was not. But I do agree a dipstick sufficed, but then I know folk who would not know where their dipstick is, and many others would never think to check it. This at least gives them a warning they would otherwise miss. But then I suppose anyone who does not know where their dipstick is, is a dipstick themselves. :)

But my biggest gripe with modern cars is no spare wheel, but then that’s another topic.
We all (?) trust our fuel gauges . I presume that was done with a dipstick at one time ?

And, And, every post 06 Fiat I've looked at when starting up the oil light comes on and the word OIL appears.

More knowledge gained series 8 ducato, should you like me over fill the engine oil capacity you'll see an over fill message appear immediately after initial engine check when turning ignition on. Although now showing 90% capacity the over fill message won't disappear until you've gone to the dealer for a reset. Van booked in for 13th March for oil replacement because that's what dealer say's needs to be done. Hopefully you'll all learn from my lack of knowledge of how the series 8 engine oil gauge works!

Just as daft as not having a dip stick some manufacturers are now also doing away with sump plugs,
So the oil has to be sucked out
I got one like this several years ago saves getting underneath

I always put a extra half ltr in engines to allow for the slight burn off between services, never did any harm.

I can't remember the last time I had to put oil in any vehicle, I do check periodically if and when I remember but the levels never seem to alter but I'm not an engine abuser.

I checked at every fill up when I was a courier as they were driven quite hard over long hours 7 days a week so the oil got check almost every day but even then a 5l can lasted a very long while, screen wash seemed to vanish much faster.
