Diesel night heater fuel location

Hi, I am looking at fitting a diesel under a bench seat. Is it safe to also store the diesel tank/can under the same bench seat.

We had a separate small tank under the bonnet, wouldn't fancy one in living quarters because of the smell.
 
If the vehicle is diesel dip tube in tank is way to go IMHO ...

If its not and you need a separate tank I'd personally keep it out of the living area due to smell as much anything safety wise

Things to consider.
a) How confident are you that you will not spill fuel when topping up.
I once spilled diesel in my Range Rover, my wife complained about the smell for 6 months.

b) Will your insurance company accept internal storage of fuel ?
Especially so close to the heater.

c) How much diesel do you want to hold.
Depends on your planned use but do a worse case estimate to be safe.

d) Are you planning on a fixed tank (how will you refill it and where will you store the topping up container) or a removable one (makes filling easier


Have you thought about using the main fuel tank.
 
Yeah it's more the spilling and smell of diesel if it's inside. Main fuel tank is by far the best option but that does mean you are using road fuel

I barely notice the fuel ours uses to be honest ....

And bearing inind it's on 24/7 when we're away

The one in the greenhouse though upsets me Everytime I have to top it's tank up ....

I've never managed to have one with a dedicated tank (bear in mind I've been faffing with these for 30 plus years)
That didn't end up smelling of diesel from accidental spills etc .
 
Diesel is dorty feckin stuff.
Have a diesel heater in my workshop and as careful as I am it gets over hands clothes etc.
Do anything you can to keep the tank outside the van.
Just my opinion.
And my missus after I sploshed some over a fave coat. Took 4 washes to get the stink out of our washing machine.
Was not popular.
