Turned up on site today with solar panels on sides and roof. The habitation area was raised up after the van was parked. It did make annoying "wooooow wooooow wooooow" sounds that sounded like a ship's foghorn when manouvering to park up so the whole site was alerted to its presence.

Bit of a cheat though as still had to use hook up. The question is did they pay a premium for excessive electric use to presumably top up electric vehicle battery?

Bet the noise was nothing compared to the modern vans with electric fans that seem to keep going on and off every few seconds when vans are running🤣
Technical reason for that. It is to extend the life of the turbocharger. The electric fan keeps cooled water circulating around the turbo to prevent the oil that feeds the turbocharger bearings from overheating. That is also why the fan can run for a few minutes even after the ignition is turned off. It continues to circulate cooling water through the turbo. A "Torquecars" video on youtube explains all this.

Never seen a water cooled turbo as yet, fans on any donkey i have worked on run to cool the rad & engine block after switching of engine, turboes are oil cooled.
What you should do after a fast run is slow down for a bit to let it cool before switching of.

All true. The video I watched was in connection with a garrett water cooled turbo which the Ducatto does not have.

The electric fan runs after the engine is off to simply cool the engine, more so if it is running a DPF regen cycle which injects more fuel into the engine. I assume that with stop start technology there is a need for an electric fan as mechanical fans clearly will not operate when the vehicle is stationary in traffic.

As I posted above, the main reason you will hear a Ducato making a 'racket' when pulling up is due to having A/C switched on, this is something which is increasingly happening, even in winter, as people choose 'auto' heating option.

The van has been parked up for 2 days now and no demounting has taken place (no jokes please!)
So what exactly do you mean by "the habitation unit was raised up"? got a picture?

I certainly agree that unit fell off the ugly tree.

The top portion of the habitation unit is raised.
I'd guess by roughly the distance the solar panels are from the platform.
Ah I see. So it's not that tall when driving. Is the only window out from the habitation unit that high one at the front above the cab? Must be a dismal space to occupy with no proper view out.
