Devon issue fines

I once pulled in there in January in a snow storm for safety reasons and spent the night. Some local still trudged through the snow in the morning to politely tell me there was no overnight camping allowed. Christ! I Cant wait for all this to be over and to head off to France.
So a new sport "Xtreme Nimbyism"

Or as Victor M would say "I don't believe it"..but I do.

To be fair I have stopped there for years and never had a problem with the locals yes the odd screwed up glance and Jaguars parking as close as they can to your van but as far as anyone being outwardly aggressive or rude then no,
I do think nimbyism is a small minority that like to moan about everything MHs, dogs, beggars, street urchins and the price of fish and chips they need a hobby to distract them. 😂

I chat with a lot of the locals and they have no problem with mohos, it seems to be more the 'incomers' and 2nd home owners that do the whingeing

Interesting, Chris.

That kind of confirms what I have been speculating/guessing about a lot of these reactions that have been hitting the headlines sine C-19 arrived, not just in Devon/Cornwall, but last few weeks up in Northumberland too where there has been a similar influx of newcomers and second home owners over the last 2-3 decades.

I share similar observations Marie my parents were incomers with many others on an east coast resort and were far more vocal than the locals born and bred

A lot retired there with a dream in their twilight years, and anything which didn’t conform to that dream was fair game to give disproportionate flak.

When I first married my in laws looked after an estate near lochcarron in Scotland. There was a lot of resentment against the owners who were forever trying to imprint their ideas on the locals.first impressions you would think anti English we got on with the locals ok never any animosity .it was how the owner and his cronies tried to manipulate local economy and life. The reality was imho they would achieve the same result whether it be Scotland Northumberland or Cornwall I.e get people’s backs up and win few hearts and minds.

It's the.same incomers that complain about the church bell, cocks crowing and farmyard smells.

FWIW, that concurs with my experience as a 'long-term incomer' (aka. naturalised Cornishman). Whereas most who move to Cornwall to live and work rapidly adopt the laid-back indigenous demeanour; those who come to retire or to holiday in their second home seem more likely to bring with them a sense of entitlement and consider that no-one and nothing should be allowed to spoil the idyllic dream they've bought into. Unfortunately, I suspect that retirees are often the only residents with enough time on their hands to serve on parish and town councils, form action groups, etc...
