I don't know how much these PCN are but the camping club site is only a short walk away, they could stay on there.

Obviously a test case is needed i/e dont pay the fine and fight it.How can an Enforcement officer prove you are sleeping. After midnight its morning so unless they are in the car park for say 12 hours how would they know when you arrived.

And I dont like the accusation that they are camping. How do they define camping?Surely its a vehicle park. And if there were a few HGVS parked overnight (if the carpark allowed them)would they get a PCN ticket accusing them of camping?

Maureenandtom if you see this thread can you check out the PCN rules for this car park?

ooh aah or inded Arrgh !
It does us no favours to argue against the "rules" for a given car park
It is disingenuous. to suggest no sleeping occurred
Also (mainly) the same goes for no cooking
I do not count tea/coffee or "cornflakes & milk" etc as cooking
Yes many may also have bought food locally (F&C or a restaurant meal) (not likely at Slapton)
Also arguing that the "no overnight or no sleeping or no cooking" notices are not fully legal is petty
If you are parked overnight and inside the vehicle I suggest it is fair for a warden to assume sleeping !
(there will be exceptions ..such as visiting and sleeping at a friends house but....)
With no furniture outside and no awning yes you are not camping

Many of us would complain (rightly so) if officials penalised us on "petty points of order" !
We are simply reversing that !

I suggest we are in danger of following the trend of the FB group who appear to
1 Be overegging the letter/email bombardment
2 expecting all sorts of private parking (eg football clubs shopping store car-parks) to open up for us

Not productive !

Yes we are welcome at many clubs who, having decided it is in their interest, promote/allow motorhomes.
Lets hope more follow that trend

Anyway Tin hat and flack jacket in place

PS It seems from the photo many were badly parked !
Yes longer vehicles have a problem..I note there are end to end bays so parkup using 2 bays (lenghtwise) and buy 2 tickets
Put a note in the windscreen to that effect andd take photos
If you do this then a fine would be totally OTT and could be challenged
Some of the bays nearest the beach might allow for any overhang to be over grass/sand.

A better solution would be for an overnight fee was payable with the usual NO CAMPING restriction
If you want to sit out just take your chairs towards the beach (outside the carpark)
I appreciate that this option is no good for those with mobility issues.

We have two problems at the moment, too many people trying to holiday in the UK and too many stirring up the authorities with letters demanding somewhere to park for the night and awakening them to the fact that we already use these places. I can't see a problem with an overnight at somewhere like Slapton Sands, it's not exactly in front of someones front window, or stopping the locals from finding a parking space for the night.

Can I just say as someone who was there the week before when 7/8 were issued a lot of the tickets issued were for none payment might I also add the 24 hour tickets are for the night fishermen, and those that think they can get away with sleeping in their vehicles won’t as like at Hayling Island the ticket fairy comes at all hours through the day and night. Might I also add I did NOT get a ticket follow the rules and you are OK .

and for the attention of Jagmanx tin hat or not 😂
I did eat out locally fish and chips and I shopped in the local Slapton community store spent over £50 there and almost all that were there had their chairs on the beach please don’t make assumptions I WAS THERE.

I was there when he was issuing tickets. It was 5.00am and I was at the back of my van setting up my rod to go fishing, he just said good morning and wished me luck. Locals say some people on the council have connections with local caravan sites, but that may just be gossip. The ticket man I spoke to a few days earlier said there are talks taking place about putting in height barriers, but again that may be unfounded.
There are other places to spend the night without waking up to a ticket.

The thing also is and I cannot find the report when the road was closed due to the storm it was reported and the attendant I was chatting with confirmed this that SH council once they had spent money moving the road and rebuilding it they would spend no more money on the memorial carpark as it was too costly and like Hayling Island the sea would win anyway but unlike HI it seems they have changed their minds and are spending on new signage and barriers.

I am sure we all hate Height Barriers.
They prevent daytime usage even for some cars.
They are a sledge hammer to crack (Smash) a nut and discrimination !
I wish that someone with legal training could find a way to challenge them
OK existing ones will remain in place but can we stop new ones being erected..Probably not !

EDIT
Ps also a safety hazard in some places as you may have turned into a road to a car park and you then have to reverse out onto a busy road
OR you signal to go into a CP but then have to drive on with a car committed to overtake you !

I've been beach fishing most of my life, but because of mobility issues my rock-hopping/cliff climbing days are over. Slapton is one of the few beaches that I can still access and height barriers would end that.

And I go beach fishing with him for the same reasons plus he’s better at it than me so mackerel breakfast is mostly guaranteed through the season 😉😉
