Instructions say to use wine vinegar & introduce through the water supply. Has anyone else done this?

We have everything empty at the moment, with the exception of water in the boiler as I don't think the dump valve has triggered since we returned form our last trip. So, would this be the best way to do do it?

  • Put 12 litres of vinegar in the fresh water tank & then run the hot tap until 12 litres of water have run off (tank capacity).
  • The tank should then be full of vinegar.
  • Leave it overnight or for 24 hours, perhaps go for a drive?
  • Drain off through the hot tap & then flush with plenty of clean water through the hot tap.

Does that sound right?
I will use white vinegar, should it be neat or is there anything better?
Should I turn the boiler on to heat it?
Have I missed anything?

I do like to ask the experts before I go & screw something up.

Truma do Aquastar 1 + 2 specifically for de-scaling and cleaning their boilers. I think Aquastar 1 is citric acid based for the de-scaling operation.
I've never personnelly used either so not sure how good they are.

My instructions actually state wine vinegar. I'm sure it'll be a little bit cheaper, not mention available in Tesco.;)

Sounds reasonable to me.

Just make sure your freshwater tank is empty and your boiler tank is full before adding the 12 litres of vinegar and running off the 12 litres of water.

Hi Sharon,
Lemon juice is the best descaler but, unfortunately, you need an awful lot of lemons :)

Don't add it to your fresh tank or it taste everything from then on. Add it to a separate containers and put the pump inlet or an extension tube and flush it from there, a gallon should be enough to get it in there, let it get hot in the boiler and flush it through the system into your GREY TANK (just to get the frothing at the mouths going) Then you can pour it out after having a good stir up in there to clear crud,

Ah ha this is the sort of reply I thought I might get.

Now the problem is I have no idea how to access the pump inlet. Our boiler is under the fixed bed. Will it be an obvious tube from the cold water feed?
Now to be really thick........ How do I make the boiler suck it in?

What makes you think it needs descaling?

Scale is normally a problem that arises in hard water areas and even then would require continuous usage over quite a long period ...
