Derbyshire - Wildcamping Friendly?

Hi,

Am looking at visiting Derbyshire to see the stone circles and waterfalls etc, Stanton moor area in particular. I had a bad experience in Norfolk a couple of years ago. Is Derbyshire wildcamping friendly as my wife was not impressed before.

Thanks
Doug

Here right Now!

Hi

We've seen some of the wild camps marked and not had the courage to stay over in them. A couple we've seen are fee paying car parks and certainly in Chesterfield the car park attendants were out in force.

Most pubs seem to allow overnight parking if you eat there ... we've not bought BritStops. Been here 5 nights so far and used CL from the Caravan Club, but will stay around here for until 26th May, so we also would be very interested to hear of anyone else's Peak District wild camp experiences and recommendations.

We stayed at the Knockerdown Inn by Carsington Water a couple of weeks ago. Not wild camping as we paid £12 but a nice pub with excellent food, basic toilet and showers, and lovely views over Carsington water which was about a 10 minute walk away.

I'm just back from Britstops number 701.
A lovely pub that have embraced the Britstops idea. They have even installed four EHU points (charged for) and a fresh water tap in the car park.
No more information available ....Britstops rules prevent me telling.

Just to add....there are three wild camping spots on the wild camping poi's that are close by...and would have been my "back up" plan had 701 been full.
Wild camping rules prevent me naming them too....

You pays your money...and get the info....plus the added benefits wild camping membership offers.

I find every County motorhome friendly, but I use CR's out in the sticks, only stay one night and don't get the table and chairs out. I really can't see the pleasure in sleeping in a town centre car park when you can wake up to fantastic views and peace and quiet. Then again I am a miserable, anti social old sod.

I live on the edge of the Peak District and wild camp there often without any problem. There are many more locations "to be found" than appear on the app, especially if you travel down some of the narrower roads. This past weekend we had two nights in the Manifold Valley, no problems at all.

As for being anxious about wildcamping, initially (several years ago) when I first got my MH, I thought like a caravanner; must find a place for the night. Slowly the penny dropped, now we seek out locations that have a grand view and park up. Unlike many farm locations and caravan parks surrounded by laylandii, we have a great room with a view in the country. In fact we have been taking photographs out of Vanessa's window as reminders of all the wonderful trips. At no time have we been moved on and we have been all around the area. A couple of farmers have dropped by to say hello, chat and enquire if we are ok. On a trip we follow the "leave no footprint" rule when we park up. Including keeping grey water on board, so when we leave there is no reason to complain.

Give wildcamping a go, once you get used to the freedom you won't regret it. We have seen no down side.
