Degassing bottle Talbot 2.5D

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can buy a new or good second hand degassing bottle for a 1991 Talbot Express 2.5D non turbo??

It looks like a tennis ball with the ends flattened and has two pipes into it from the heater matrix and a small stub out of the top to the expansion tank. It is this small stub to the expansion tank that has broken off ( age I think ), and its leaking engine coolant. I've stuck a screw in it for now but I'm not sure if its ok to run like this as I don't want to get a build up of air in the system and maybe blow another pipe.

Been to my local Peugeot place and after looking on his database he said the part is no longer available. I've also emailed a couple of breakers off Ebay but no luck there either.

Any help would be gratefully received and if you've got one the beers are on me!! :D

Hi Boxerman,

I've not heard of JB weld, what is it? It will need to be able to stick the plastic the bottle is made from and be able to withstand the coolant system temperature, about 130 deg C.

JB Weld is wonderful stuff:) it'll repair almost anything. Available on Ebay for 6 or 7 ukp. There are different grades - quick setting, marine and "standard"
It comes in two tubes, one adhesive, one hardener. which you mix together then apply to the part to be repaired. Setting time depend on grade.
If you do a search for "JB Weld" on Ebay, most of the ads will tell you more about it than I can.

Hi Boxerman,

Thanks for the info, I've ordered one of the JB Weld Stiks, sounds like it will do the job. Find out when it gets here! Would still like to find a good one though, if only to keep for spares. My previous experience of sticking plastics is that the glues never do what they say they will.

CHeers for the heads up on that JB stuff, ive just ordered a tube for my travelling tool kit. Seems a VERY handy item to have.

Randoneur, let us know how you got on, am interested to know the outcome.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Miller, will do.

I was in my local B & Q earlier this morning and I noticed that they have a similar type of thing to JB Weld but made by Evo Stik, this also comes in two tubes or stick form, about £3 I think they wanted for it.
