We had similar sized vans for over 12 years and the difference over those 12 years was staggering. We went from wildcamping with the odd C&CC THS, to C&CC THS with the odd wildcamp.Very true. Unfortunately the massive surge in demand focused the minds of those whose minds I prefer to be unfocused.
For us it didnāt help moving to a longer van (8.2m plus scooter rack at rear) but then we do virtually all our off grid parking in France and Spain.
Still occasionally park up off grid in England but normally on tarmac surfaces where permitted.
It must be nice having a VW sized camper with a loo but for full time living less so.
That's not defining, Phil, it's interpreting ['for us']. Even the Parking Ticket Case against Worthing Borough Council didn't define wild camping, the Adjudicator looked at the legislation and found that the banning of Motor Caravans in isolation breached the Rules. Legal definitions take skilled drafters a long time to get right, and sadly, the number of pieces of legislation and the variety of topics that pass through Parliament now, mean that there is insufficient time to craft the definitive legal text before the next crateload arrives to be drafted.
As an example, the Companies Act 1948 stood the test of time with few omissions or problems, until a shorter, updating Companies Act was introduced in 1967. Then the next Companies Act was introduced in 1976, followed by the 1980, 1981 and 1985 Acts [I haven't looked at Company Law since the 1985 Act. so there will have been others since then]

There are portable chemical loos available but this is not āworking plumbingā. It is possible to park up near a WC and these are covered in the POI map.Contentious view, you should not be allowed to park overnight anywhere in anything without proper working plumbing, if you donāt have a loo you should only park on campsites, anyone else agree?

No it wouldnāt. If legislated for it would force the U.K. government to ensure many more proper facilities for truckers are in place, as they are around Europe. The transport industry would cease immediately
Wake up man. Where do you think the money would come from to do all the work? How long do you think it would take to get the work done? Councils have even removed bins from a lot of lay-bys so they donāt have to stand the cost of emptying them. There is no money for anything that SHOULD happenNo it wouldnāt. If we leisure vehicle users had the same level of service point facilities in the U.K. that they have in France, then maybe vans without plumbing could enjoy the same lifestyle as those with plumbing. Sadly the U.K. is pathetic in this regard which makes unplumbed van life slightly challenging but workable with much forethought and planning.
Trucking companies could pay a levy to ensure proper facilities or some other private initiative taken to set something up. No government money needed. But point taken.Wake up man. Why have plumbing? I had. VW t5 with a wee portaloo. Doesnāt look out of place parked in the woods or by a Loch. Big white motorhomes stick out like a sore thumb and if more than one look like an unofficial campsite. I know which vehicle I think should be on the campsite.Contentious view, you should not be allowed to park overnight anywhere in anything without proper working plumbing, if you donāt have a loo you should only park on campsites, anyone else agree?
what about the motorhomes that have full on board facilities that still choose to empty black waste in inappropriate places, you cannot blame one type of camper/ motorhome for everything. There are portable chemical loos available but this is not āworking plumbingā. It is possible to park up near a WC and these are covered in the POI map.
Camper vans without plumbing are normally marketed and sold as āday vansā. In France there are many aires where they are not permitted to park up.
Agree that van owners without plumbing do not help the off grid overnight parking crusade.

As for leisure vehicle service points, private companies are installing fee paying electric car charging points with the aim of generating revenue. This has a degree of government backing however.
Some private enterprise could install a chain of fee paying motorhome service points across the U.K.. No reason at all why all A Road and motorway service areas could not have a motorhome service point. And even larger supermarket car parks. The real issue here is planning control and interests that donāt want this to happen.
