Decorate Or Sod It?

Our first Christmas as full timers and even though we are spending some of the festive period with family, most of the time we'll still be in the van - and we're apprehensive. What with the current weather (rain, rain and more rain) we were feeling pretty un-Christmassy so we went down to our lock-up, grabbed some of our decorations and stuck them up. Seems to have done the trick, but does anyone else do this or are we just being sentimental wusses that can't let go?

Nah its all good fun. Its a new chapter for you so it might well all feel a bit strange but if a few lights and decs brighten things up and make it feel like Christmas then go for it. We often spend Christmas in the van and New Year so will have a few lights up. Probably staying at home this year though unless there is suddenly a good weather window. Its bloody awful at the moment and that can get you down a bit so making the van warm, cosy and festive cheers the mood. If that doesn't work just get shitfaced and start singing Christmas Karaoke.

Yes, Barry that's what we were thinking. Her indoors has already gone through half a bottle of Bacardi this past week - she's feeling better already. :ROFLMAO:

Thats just a warm up surely. :ROFLMAO:

How long have you been full timing now? You probably told us but I forgot.

Just a few months. When the weather's been good it's great, but we are sick to death of rain and mud. This was the view from our van window in Pembrokeshire the other day. The exception, not the rule.

If it gets too much many go off down to Spain and Portugal and some as far as Turkey and Crete. It doesn't appeal to me but it might if I was full timing.

Perhaps you should have joined the journey to Benidorm then your baubles will sparkle!!
I don't put up many and don't buy a tree, I do decorated twigs, see below.
In your situation a Christmas jumper might do the trick.

Yes, we normally bring out the obligatory jumpers this time of year. Another trip to the lockup then.

As for travels further afield, well we actually love Christmas as it's a family time for us and one of the few times we all get together. Never got used to warm Christmases when we live in Australia many years ago.

That said, I despise January so that'll be the time to go I reckon. Can't do it in 2026 due to some commitments but after that we're off at that time of year I think. Also fits in with the 90 day rule - early/ mid April things are a bit better here - sometimes.

In 1999, our first year of full-timeing, we were on a campsite on The Algarve. Hiding from the year 2K predicted disaster.

We'd left the UK in late November and brought enough stuff for a traditional Xmas.
We met several Brits in the same situation. As there were only about 400 motorhomes on the Algarve, most were novices.
It was a lovely day, so we had the full Monty, outside.
Paper hats, crackers, Paxo stuffing. The Dutch and Germans were fascinated, they have some traditions in common, due to Queen Victoria &Albert.

The French, mainly ignored us.

That night we organised Carol singing around the vans, to raise money for the cleaning staff.
Ah such innocent days!
