Dead satnavs - Snooper

I've got a Garmin Nuvi which has seemingly expired and Garmin have been their usual helpful selves (note sarcasm overdose here) in failing to sort it out.

On the van we have a Snooper S6400 (the one with all the campsite databases on it). We got it partly because of being able to connect the reversing camera to it, and it's been good for just over a year.

However, yesterday I was using it in the car (due to dead Garmin :rolleyes2:) and it gave up the ghost 20 miles from my destination, claiming a flat battery. It was connected to a USB power supply which works ok.

Since then, I've been unable to get it to work. Have tried resetting etc, but all that happens now is the intro screen cycles off and on, but will go no further. I've been in touch with Snooper - no reply yet.

Any advice on how to sort it would be very welcome.............

yes

Carefully dispose of both offending objects and buy a descent map, much more fun. :hammer: :hammer:

what did we all do before sat navs .me for one used a map and still have one but use it little and have successfully navigated the UK since starting my driving career at 17 . which includes quite a few years as a delivery driver all over the country .i can find my way round this sceptered isle of ours quite well and if i do get confused trying to find a certain area i ask . as for petrol stations theirs one on most roads so no prob there. super markets well there not actual raireties ether easily found .sunday we were up in mexborough a place i havent been for years , and wanted to find a pets at home .anyway my daughter said she will check on her i phone thingy .by the time she had the directions i was pulling into the shopping complex .by just following the road signs i do admit to having one navman i think ,anyway bought it cheap of ebay ,just to try one out .it got me lost in london ,so i turned it off and used my own navigation system ,bus stops and signs .got to my destination dead easy. one thing i do use is aa route finder if i am unsure of a places location .look at it once and then set off usually get there OK . mind you i have spent the last 47 years or so traveling the uk

Don't use a usb connection to charge it put it use a 12v supply to do that .This happened to mine the usb does not give enough power when its being used to keep it working . Hope that helps

Nobody knows where we are going.

I see all those things as part of the adventure to go wild camping or travelling and know exactly where you are going and what time you arrive makes it all a little boring for me I save that sort of thing for doctors/hospital/dentist appointments. Travelling I just pick N/S/E/W point the van and see where we end up. but each to there own. :camper::have fun::fun:

Of course each to their own, etc etc.

It's a tool to aid you. Use it when you want, ignore it when and where you want. Having a sat nav has never stopped me exploring anywhere. You don't have to put a destination in, just view it as map. Neither do you blindly follow it if you do put a destination in, it's a machine, not a dictator. lol

My Nuvi is nearly 5 years old - how much longer have I got? Only if it's going to expire soon I may as well get a new one now for my summer excursions. How long should they last?

My Wife has a Garmin Nuvi that is so old the car symbol is a chariot but she loves it, I have just put her the latest maps on and it is running the latest software so who can tell how long they last

Sounds feasible - I'll try that.

Thanks

Had a snooper and it was nothing but trouble. A very expensive mistake. My advice is put the Snooper in the bin!!! And buy a proper satnav........

Agreed, but a map can't see behind the van ;)

By an Alpine Car Entertainment System with sat nav. Not cheap but you can put all the Poi's in it you will ever need. Have fun with Garmin they really don't offer a very good after sales service.

My Snooper had a similar problem while I was in Spain over the winter. I contacted them and they couldn't have been more helpfull. They re-loaded the software remotely over the internet
