Has anyone had one of these, I have £15.96 in my account, if I do not make a crossing within the 90 days, they close my account and keep my money!!

Your Dart Charge account has been inactive for 12 months.
In accordance with our terms and conditions, your account will be closed if it remains inactive for a further 90 days. You can keep your account open by topping up your balance or by making a crossing in a vehicle which is linked to the account.

Ooo never had one but I’d better check the balance on mine.

I was under the impression that they close the account and refund the money back into the account it was paid from.

Can`t see anything that says they, see note 9

That's totally different to the way it works for me. I have a credit card registered with Dart online and they just take money from the card whenever I make a crossing, so I never have to give it a thought. I've never topped up or had a 'balance'. Surely they would refund your money if they closed the account?

We had the same inactive account notice as we have been going to Dover by way of my mother in law in Bournemouth so have not used it. But she died so we will be going again, we had 7 pounds in our account. We topped up with the minimum, 5 pounds I think it was and the account is active for another 12 months or until we use it. I think the advantage of an account is a small reduced toll

That is what we will do then, before the 90 days is up put whatever money it needs that.would give us a few years,

I have a DartCharge account and it is set to automatic top-up.

I've not crossed for over a year and not received any such note, but I do regularly visit their website to check my current details are correct and up to date.

Perhaps in their mind that demonstrates "activity".

Is it cheaper to do it via top-ups then? I pay £2.50 per crossing (car or motorhome) via the automatic payment method. I'll stick with it though because it's so effortless and doesn't have the same expiry problem but it would be interesting to know what people pay with the top-up method.

According to my last years Dartcharge statements they charge £2 each time I go over.

Thanks for this. I've not used the crossing for a couple of years so just checked my online account. Despite being PAYG, it has been closed so would have left me liable to a fine if I used it!

£2.00 on account and £2.50 if you pay as you go which is much, much, much more expensive than it used to be i.e. £1.67 on account o_O

The problem i have now is that i have some odd pence that will never get used up ( until the price increases again ) because it`s a straight £2.00 each crossing.

I`m more than happy with the account as we use the crossing at least 8 -ish times a year so the £0.50 saving per crossing keeps my bank account healthy.

I do however find that having to remember to check my balance maybe twice a year very annoying and frustrating and there are much better things i could do with the 1 minute it takes me to do such horrible, horrible task.

It is slightly balanced though by not having to fanny around having to remember to phone or go on line within 24 hours of crossing to pay so as to avert being incarcerated for such a heinous crime.

I had some odd pennies left in my account so the next time I topped up I worked out what I needed to add to the account have the correct sum in there to pay fully for the crossing and added that to the amount I topped up so that there was no wasted money. You can top up however much you like
