Cycle Rack

I am sure this will have cropped up many times before ......

I have bought a Fiamma cycle pro which I am trying to get installed. A local MH dealer wants £120 (2hrs labour apparently!) and a mobile fitter (£95) can't do it for a month.

Initially I was led to believe that the fixings need to be aligned with specially reinforced panels inside the rear wall but the mobile fitter tells me that apart from some Eldis models this is not so. I have also read the usual scaremonger reports about invalidated insurance if not dealer fitted but this seems to be unfounded speculation.

I have a very experienced mechanic willing to fit it but wondered if anyone has any thoughts before I proceed further.

I fitted a Fiamma rack to my Knaus SunTi. In my van there are reinforcing blocks in the rear wall - you can usually find these by looking at an oblique angle or tapping the surface with a coin or similar. I made sure that the rack mounts lined up with the hard points and that the fittings didn't interfere with anything on the inside (this involved dismantling of some structure). Strangely there were only 3 points that lined up - this was sorted by bonding a spacer tube into the foam wall to prevent the bolts from crushing the structure. I steered clear of 'professionals' for this 'cos the easy way out is just to stick the bolts through anywhere convenient... (other less cynical opinions are available). Not much point referring to the instructions as they tell you to fit it in the most suitable place...

Thanks very much. I did receive your messages and followed them up making contact. He doesn't cover right down on the south coast but was still very helpful.

Many thanks !

Hi Fairytooth:wave:

I was just wondering did you manage to find someone to do your bike rack ??? We need one fitted also but everyone seems to want to charge the earth and we just have got a lot of pennies right now. We are based in Sussex....

If you are down our way, you are welcome to call in and pick our brains, or we can fit it for you.

Peter

How funny! We just had it fitted today by coincidence. Fitted at our home by Martin Hitchiner of South Coast Leisure Services 02392 341869. Highly recommended. £30p/h. Done for £60. Very happy:D

PM me if you need any more info, he covers West Sussex by the way.

 Thanks fairytooth ........just took a look at his website and think I will be giving him a call. Might even ask him about doing a service too. Glad you got your bike rack sorted and a good price too !!!!.....Happy camping
