Hi
Am thinking off buying the ctek 250s with smartpass charger to charge my 500ah batterie bank, but just wondering if anyone else has one off these and your views on them ?
thanks
paul

I have used these before and they are very good.

I would have a look at eBay and you will find companies in Europe are cheaper. This is because of the value of the Euro. I contacted a seller in Spain last week about both units and was offered them brand new for about £150 each including international postage.

CTEK D250S DUAL 12V 56-677 | eBay

Conrad have the Smartpass for £150 + p&p

If you have a dual charge relay connected between the same batteries, then yes it needs to be removed.

Thanks for that I may just have to buy one, I have seen a uk seller selling them both together for £336.00 free postage,

I have this system with Smartpass, and my initial thoughts are good, but I have not used it long term yet as I decided to change my van. I use along with a 100 watt solar panel, and I have a Waeco compressor fridge.

Agree with all previous and I find it excellent. I would also advise you upgrade the wiring from the unit to the batteries particularly if you are using the Smart pass and remember fuses at both end

Out of nothing more than curiosity are these to replace a motorhome built in charger or for use on self builds ?

Hi
not to replace the charge system, it goes from your starter batterie/alternator and boosts the charge to your leisure batteries while driving,
here's more info
SmartPass is an energy management unit which controls and optimises energy produced by alternators, solar cells, wind power or conventional AC/DC chargers, and distributes it to the battery banks or consumers which require energy, such as the deep cycle bank, bow thruster batteries, consumers, etc.

Used together with a D250S, SmartPass provides optimal charging via CTEK’s unique staged charging cycle, which also protects your batteries. SmartPass also has an integrated ‘battery guard’ which protects deep cycle batteries from harmful total discharge and ensures that critical equipment such as radio, emergency lights and navigation systems always function.

SmartPass has a temperature sensor which protects batteries against high temperatures.

SmartPass is a fully automatic energy management system which can handle up to 80A for batteries of between 28-800Ah.

The energy management system is IP65 classified (water jet and dust protected and approved for outdoor use).

Suitable for all types of 12V lead-acid batteries.

INTEGRATED SYSTEM

Combining the D250S Dual and Smart Pass ensures optimal battery charging.
the Smart Pass manages the energy transfer through the D250S Dual,
which then converts and produces the optimal voltage of 14.4 V, even if
the alternator only produces 14 V.

BATTERY WATCH TECHNOLOGY

CtEK’s built-in Battery Watch technology allows the Smart Pass distributes energy to service battery or consumers or both.
The Smart Pass can also switch off consumers with a battery guard function.
This ensures that service batteries are protected from being deeply
discharged, providing batteries with an optimal service life and reducing
the frequency and need for regular traditional charging.

D250S DUAL is a 5-step charger that automatically adjusts the charging voltage and current according to the battery state of charge and temperature–reducing a battery’s charge time.

A sensor on the CTEK charger senses the battery temperature and adjusts the required charge by increasing the voltage in cold weather ensuring the battery is fully charged, and dropping the voltage in hot weather to avoid the problems of overcharging.

With the D250S DUAL, vehicle owners can be confident that their battery will always receive the optimal charging voltage, with reduced charge time and while ensuring the charging will be 100% complete.

SOLAR CONNECTION
The D250S DUAL has the additional benefit of an auxiliary input which can be connected directly to solar panels without the need for a regulator, offering free power from the sun.

D250S DUAL has a built-in Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) that helps the solar cells produce power as efficiently as possible by taking the most efficient source of energy from the solar panels automatically, and then using the power to charge the battery.
The MPPT searches for the most effective combination of solar cell voltage and current, which ensures that the solar and alternator function in unison to maximise power output.

Protections

No harmful galvanic currents - CTEK M200 produces no harmful galvanic currents that cause corrosion which quickly damages various metal components under the boat, including propellers and ladders

Application

The CTEK D250S Dual 12V 6 Stage Charger is suitable for Boats, campervancs & RV’s, caravans, 4WD & housing that rely on generators for extra electricity.

Many thanks Wisper. Sounds a brilliant bit of kit but I don't think its something I will bother with.
What amazes me is the charging kit you can use on a motorhome, solar, alternator, mains, genny, wind etc, etc. the list is endless.

Steve.

Bear in mind you only need the smartpass unit if your battery bank is fairly large, ie: more than 250ish ah.
