Always on the look-out for a good Cornish Pasty whilst travelling the best I have found was at the Cornish pasty shop in Keswick,
Any others that are worth a Mention?

Pork Pie

I dunno about Cornish pasties but you should try the Pork Pie shop in Melton Mowbray! The best!!

we dont send good pasty ,s out from cornwall so how you get a good one is make it yourself if not in cornwall. we have good ones every where we go. we make them sometimes . sorry to disapoint you. did the one in keswick have fish in one end and fruit in the other. or was it just a ginsters meat n potatoe , or whats suposed to be a proper cornish pasty made in bodmin. never mind . i make good yorkshire puddings as well. cheers alan.

Cornish my arse, there is real evidence that the pasty originated in Plymouth so its from Devon.
As an aside my favourite ones are in The fleet walk in Torquay in Oggeys pasty shop,i just love their beef and stilton:):)
Another good one is the bakery on the corner just as you get into the town opposite st michaels mount.Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!

you mean marazion ,was there yesterday. there are several good bakeries that make their own. .. i bet you buy them in the shop in plymouth main street cant remember their name . a friends wife set uproper cornish in bodmin . thety ship them all over the world now . but i prefer others myself . i did used to deliver alot of theirs to presto pasties or grannies pasties . not keen on ginsters . but our local butchers make a good one. cheers alan.
the pasty was made so you held the crust and ate the bulk of it then threw the bit of crust away . if you were down the tinmines you couldnt wash your hands . they got taken all over the world as the tin mines closed and cornish miners went every where working in the coal mines . my family several generations ago came from cambourne . but i was born in donny. all good mining country .

The Pasties from Keswick are seriously good, July and August I tried them from Somerset to Falmouth, sea front in Bude not bad, Treaga Mills Ok. I have never had a good Ginsters yet
the renown Ivor Dewneys in plymouth, not a patch on the Keswick ones.
Filling vary from Lamb,Beef, to fruit didnt see any Fish ones though.
My Missus is from down the west country and makes a good pasty, World class Rabbit and Steak and Kidney pies so Ive had the best

Yorkshire pudding was always seved before the meal when I was a lad, great big oblong ones cooked in the meat dish. My Missus makes them that way now as she finished her apprentice period (35 years) 5oz Plain Flour,4 Eggs,1/2 pint full fat milk salt and black pepper and Beef Dripping in the pan, sod the arteries
My Grandmother also served them with Raspberry Vinegar after the meal.

i will try to find out if the keswick pasties are made in the shop or just baked off there .....i have a cornish guest that reconed they were crap ...she calls herself tiddy oggy so perhaps she does know a bit about the subject

Why not try LOOE

LOOE did the best pasty's for me while living in Cornwall for three years but never had a decent one in Plymouth. Although we used to go several times a week to the Ginster factory, straight out the ovens in their on site shop, fresh and great!

Nothing like a fresh Ginster while high up on windy, wet moor!

Thanks Chef
The shop was full and people waiting out on the street with most people buying more than one, I bought 4 in total, 1 beef and stilton.1 Large original, 1 lamb and mint and 1 apple absolutely the best I have ever had
The service was a production line with two lasses serving and 1 taking payment,
Give it a try Chef, Tiddy Oggi might just refer to your guests shape or could be that she does not like admitting something that good is made outside the county that supposedly invented it.

i should find out today wether they are 'homemade' or from a factory . my daughter also recons they are great ...it would be nice to think there was an artisan in the back making them .
The cornish lady is very nice , but does indeed look like she likes a pasty or two !
maybe she doesnt like seeing cornish pasties made outside cornwall . The grasmere gingerbread shop wont allow anyone to sell grasmere gingerbread other than themselves ....even other shops in the village , but thats another subject

Cornish Pasties

Hi all

Don't know about the modern Cornish pasties but the Starry-Gazzy pie served in the early 60's at the Ship at Mousehole, on Tom Bowcotts eve (the eve before Christmas eve, it's a well known folk tale) was seriously good.

AyGee

Keswick Cornish pasties are indeed cornish ! made at Crantock bakery at newquay and frozen ...Baked off in the shop. Its a shame they arent made on the premesis , but at least they are genuinely conish and still taste good !

Pity they didnt originate in Keswick, but as you say genuine Cornish and taste good, I will definitely call by the next time I get off the Island.

hi , they are made in the next village to where i live then. well on the industrial estate anyway. my son as worked for them a few times. not too bad i must say. pass their factory on the way to my mates .cheers alan.

Marazion

Philps Pastys in Marazion.Main bakery in Hayle, pasty capital of the world.:cool:

dunno where he gets them - but clive downs of Porlock does a mean double size pasty. It takes two grown men, hungry to eat one.

FOOD in minehead does a reasonable hot one too - steak too.

As I am from Germany but married to a Cornish girl and now live here since I retired, I admit I don't know much about the Cornish pasty, though I really enjoy them. Most important, I feel quite full and it sees me through to my next meal. Another thing, Cornwall is really beautiful. If you don't believe me ask Alan from Roche. Great place to drive down with your motorhome and spend a long time along the coastal roads.

could take the rest of my life just to drive around cornwall looking at the little villages and the sneaky coves ,thats the secret. i have to use a bongo to get to some of them. i used to use a vwt2 .if you are coming down here small is the way. no roof racks and no pop tops if you want to see blue hills and carry on up the north coast. a stealth camper is definately the way down here specially in summer. then you can park just about anywhere. buy a few pasties on your way and you can warm them up in the oven or grill . no cooking to do . cheers alan.

Crantock Pasties

The best pasty shop I know is Ferrells in St Ives, but thats fresh from the oven. For a supermarket cooked pasty I agree - Crantock are probably as good as it gets, and better than many sold in Cornwall. Morrisons do them nationwide, I had some at Morrisons in Gibraltar where they keep them hot to eat there. A very pleasant surprise to get good (and inexpensive) Proper Cornish Pasties in Gibraltar.
I wish they sold Crantock Pasties to us frozen.
