Back to the question of Cobbs (snarff, snarff!!) -
We (nope, really it was "I") bought the oval one - seemed a good idea at the time as the motorhome doesn't have an oven - with hindsight, definitely didn't need that size - far too big and heavy for the two of us. There is a new compact version which I'd buy given a second chance.
In summer we leave it behind because all outdoor cooking is bbq.
Not done much winter camping yet but have used the Cobb in the garden to smoke/cook whole chicken, joint of lamb, pork, ribs - results were fantastic but will take a couple of hours - you'd either need to be in a place where theft isn't a problem or be "in situ".
We've only done meaty things, inc veggies around the meat (failed first time as let ash contaminate well) so can't vouch for it's bread/cake etc qualities.
I may be operating the Cobb incorrectly but I see it as an outdoor slow-cooker - I can see us making more use of it when we're away from civilization, preplanning meals and sick of the bbq.
If there's no "leccy", you're conserving gas, and want to arrive back to a hot meal I'd say it's ideal.
Yes, I'd say you could use it to cook paella (as you could a bbq), with the lid off, but you might need to replenish the coals.
After I've brined and smoked the 2 pork loins I have in the freezer my next project will be paella!
