coach built/self build divide

Hi all
On tuesday 20th we went on a day out as usual on our days off work we decided to go to fleetwood we parked as usual behind the cafe on the dock as we have done many times before as long as you buy somthing from the cafe you can stay for a few hours free,
like i said we parked up about 15 feet from a coach built motorhome/camper
thinking nothing of it as we park with other vans when were out and about
this van was a 53 plate as i was looking at the knott end ferry the lady from the camper came across to us and asked us to move i asked why the reply knocked me for a six she replyed WE DONT WANT YOUR VAN ASSOSIATED WITH OURS i take as much pride in my van which is Regd as a motorcaravan i hope this is not the changing face of motorhoming
like most vaners i go out my way to help others.

Hi wigan pier,
Shocking i hope you did not move as i dont think anyone has the right to ask you to move in a public car park apart from the owner regardless whether they be Motohome or Selfbuild.
I personaly would have said if you dont want your van to assosiated with mine then you should move yours:p, i think you are being to kind referring to her as being a lady:rolleyes:, stuck up old C*W more like it.
Lets hope there is not many more of her caliber about

stuck up old C*W more like it.

Ha Ha! trevor you call a spade a spade :D :D :D

Sundown

Well sundown thats putting it mild, if i wrote what i realy thinking i think i would have been thown of this forum.
She sounds like a nasty person but there is always a rotten apple in the bottom of the barrel.

I think the reason people wash caravans etc. on site is because they live in flats etc. and keep their vans etc. in storage. so while out for a weekend etc. its the only chance they get to wash it etc. etc.
  Sundown

i think its just to get away from 'er in doors.:D
it more likely they dont want to be seen with a caravan with two muddy streaks up the front cos of the lack of mudflaps by their fellow caravaners or mud splashed up the front wings on m/h's. cant be having this sort of riff-raff on this site.
my toyota hilux is 3 years old, cost me £21k and its been washed ......3 times, its a car for gods sake, not a babies bum !!!!!!!!!!!!
my m/h gets washed when i feel like it. its got a coat of paint to stop it rusting and plastic and ally dont rust, thats good enough for me.
wait till the big sites put water meters on serviced pitchs then we'll see how 'clean' they are.

Wigan pier's bad experience

Wigan Pier,(don't know your name). but your van looks fine to me, I would be more than happy if you were to park up next to ours,(refering to your origional thread).
I can't believe you let her get away with this childish act of snobbery.
But never mind ,I'm sure these experiences are few and far between and I would'nt take it to heart, just keep doing what you are are doing and enjoy it.
This brings back memories for me when many years ago I took my wife and kids to a local park for the day when there happened to be a vintage rally on with classic cars and vans. When I pulled on to the main drag in my converted Sherpa campervan we got mixed in with the convoy of classics on there way to the park.as we got near to the park ,the public were lining the streets and waving at all the cars and vans and must have thought we were part of it .
My wife was so embarrassed she crawled into the footwell(she never liked that old van),but saying that, she would'nt miss a day out in it.
I promised her that one day we would buy a van that she would be proud
of and 25 years on she is still waiting.
I believe that anyone who judges another person on what they drive is a sad person and they should have a word with themselves.
We cannot all depend on daddies inheritance..

I started with nowt and still have most of it left

It doesn't really bother me if people clean their vans on a site, i just see it as taking a pride in your motorhome. You should see how anally retentive i am about cleaning my bike.

But i have experienced Motorhome snobbery, in the days when i could only afford a self build. In fact even though i have a 30K van i still get it sometimes now, due to being a 15 stone guy with a grade 1 and covered in tats, but anyone who judges someone on what they have or how they look i just treat with the contempt they deserve.

Isn't the real difference here one of that between "Motorhomers" and "People who own a motorhome"
To explain, in my opinion "Motorhomers" are people who enjoy the freedom, probablely started out with a tent, moved on to a self biuld or old knacker and some have had the fortune to move on to something much better, but still appreciate that getting out there is more important than what you go in.
The "people who own a motorhome" are those "empty nesters" "newly Retired" "second morgagies" who's 1st motorhome is brand new, cost 50K and is a status symbol to show off with,a motorhome is the "in" thing to have, these people obviously feel that all motorhomes over 5yrs old should be scrapped as they lower the tone of THIER hobby. I believe that close examination of the poor design and biuld quality of many new vans shows that they are not aimed at real experienced motorhomers. A similar invasion was inflicted upon the boating fraturnity back in the 70's.
I sincerly believe that those on this site fall securely into the first catagory (or should) and in fairness some late arrivals into the scene do grasp the real principles of motorhoming. Perhaps at this point I should apologise to anyone whom I may have offended, however as I feel that the only people who would be offended are those that I believe have a negative effect on motorhoming as a whole, I won't.

Best regards and good night Geoff.

well said i dont think you will have offended anyone on here
