Hi all
On tuesday 20th we went on a day out as usual on our days off work we decided to go to fleetwood we parked as usual behind the cafe on the dock as we have done many times before as long as you buy somthing from the cafe you can stay for a few hours free,
like i said we parked up about 15 feet from a coach built motorhome/camper
thinking nothing of it as we park with other vans when were out and about
this van was a 53 plate as i was looking at the knott end ferry the lady from the camper came across to us and asked us to move i asked why the reply knocked me for a six she replyed WE DONT WANT YOUR VAN ASSOSIATED WITH OURS i take as much pride in my van which is reg as a motorcaravan i hope this is not the changing face of motorhoming
like most vaners i go out my way to help others.

you will always drop on the odd snob but then again just treat them with the contempt they deservei just say that must cost you a tidy sum each month or if all else fails just say sod off

Wigan have you ever been on a caravan and camping club site ?most of them look down there noses at you if you dont have a nice shiney clone of the the van next to you lol and whats with washing your van on site?i thought going away in your van was to have a break ?thats why i joined the sbmcc you wont find a single clone in there. And also why i try not to use sites anymore.

Mike

hi mikejay
yeh know just wot u mean i thats why we dont use sites.
its same on motorway when they pass u with noses in air i say pass my van goes slower than the wagon i drive 52 mph but not to worry

sorry but it seems that way tell u what u want to borrow my van and see the looks u get dont get me wrong i will get on/help anyone.
it must be the way we look me and the mrs are both rather on the large side and i look like grant out of eastenders it could be that ?:p

anyway thanx for the chat boys its bedtime got a early start 1am in morning

regards andy.:)

No this is true allthough not all are like this i must admit but when you have been turned away from caravan and camping club sites saying they are full so you stop on your sisters drive for the weekend whose house overlooks said site and walk round the site all weekend taking note of the 20 or 30 odd pitches free it makes you wonder?like i say not all owners are like this .

Mike

I agree ***** not all are the same when we pass another van we allways wave and most of the time we get a wave back so you cant tar all with the same brush .
Mike

hi, we have a game on the road : we count the wavers against the non wavers: the wavers always win, seems there more friendly people out there than u think, maybe some of the non wavers are concentrating on there driving too! also more waves from the woman in the passenger seat, does this mean woman campervaners are more sociable?
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: sundown

it all boils down to this, we all like our m/homes wether they be a old trany van with a matress thrown in the back or a 100k rv if somone who has a run of the mill one new or old because lets face it wether it has a 57 plate or or a a plate. old and seen better days they are still a box on wheels even a so called coach built is only a glorified luton van.if they dont want to talk then it is there loss. lets have our wild camping sticker then we know who our mates are

I have found the same,,ive parked next to fancy motorhomes and been ignored ,, i wild camp all of the time and i am always ready to help others , but ive parked near fancy rigs and even noticed them closing the curtains to avoid eye contact..

i pulled into a free aires/site in France a few months ago with a few mates all in selfbuit vans,,,the looks we got when we pulled in were like they were being invaded !! , we all parked an everyone watched,,,nobody said hello,,not even a nod . when one of there coachbuilts sank in the sand they couldnt get it out, after an hour or so we went and hooked it to the back of my old Iveco and pulled it out,,they began talking to us then..

maybe its because im a biker with long hair,,,,i look like an old age traveler
maybe its just because i built the van to my own style,,i travel a lot with Mikejay and his has short hair and looks respectable and we have noticed the same divide a few times,,,,

or maybe im just the sensitive type :)

I think this divide maybe works both ways. In our caravaning days, every-one was friendly with us when we had an ancient 2berth caravan, but as we worked our way up, through better and newer caravans, less people seemed comfortable with us, and when we finally reached the peak, a brand new
5 berth avondale rialto, no-one would talk to us, like we had the plague.
so I countered this by going to the old 2berth caravaner to ask for a loan of a rubber mallet. the response was always the same "A CARAVAN LIKE THAT AND YEVE NO GOT A MALLET?" To which i responded "after buying "that" i canna afford a mallet". this broke the ice and often ended up with us sitting down to a beer together
So we must remember, most people with a big fancy motorhome, started off with a wee beat up old camper, As Rabbie burns once said
"were a' Jock Tamson's bairns"   Sundown

Old van verses new

Back in August I was taken badley & couldnt drive only snag I was down in Cornwall, manged to get on a small cc site just me & 1 other very posh bus, later the first evening he came accross & asked if all was well as he'd seen me struggling to set up & get water, explained my problem & off he went, later his wife came over with a cooked meal fer me, & fer 3 days they came by every morning with coffee then done my bit of shopping & gave me a meal every night,My old bus a beat up 16yr old Renault Mudguard, Them in a brand new Fiat Bungalow as big as a bus,the type that has been said look down their noses & close the curtains when you park next to them [I often do just to p**** them off] the moral is not all super posh are snobbish, there are one or two kind folk out there thank god.

You're right about people concentrating on their driving. Motorhomer's don't usually wave to us as we have a home-conversion which looks like a commercial vehicle from the front. Once, when someone did wave, I had one hand on the wheel and was changing gear with the other. Felt awful, sorry whoever it was. But that is probably why the passenger (male or female) will wave more than the driver.

that is shocking, i hope you moved after all you wouldn't want to be assosciated with that kind of lowlife do you?

I must disagree with most of you. I have noticed a lot of reverse snobbery on sites over the last few years.
People seem to be looking down on some one with an older van and heaven help some one with a home built effort.
This could work in our favour if people change their vans more often. There could be a lot more second hand vans like there is in Europe!
I have also seen this Caravan and Motorhome washing. It's hilarious to watch. I saw four caravans at Lobb Fields, Braunton do this. They all pulled in, parked in the regulation Caravan Club manner and almost before they'd had a cup of teas proceeded to wash their 'vans.
One of them had some thing that he plunged up and down in a bucket. The others were very envious of this. The following day they all had them :D
By the way MikeJay. I think I may have seen you on a site before because I half recognise the van. Did it start life as an LT? It's a bit hard to tell from your avatar

Divide

It does not matter what you do,.there will always be some one with different opion. Sorry to hear of your bad experece.

me thinks its 'where' not 'who'

We dont get waved at cus our van is old and blue, it has an awning on the side so it is clear it a camper, but I think it depends where people are from.

When we were in the isle of wight this summer we were parked near 3 caravans staying together, we tried to have a laugh with them but they were not interested, infact, I would go as far as to say they were ignorant as they totally ignored any conversations we tried to start, they had southern accents.

Sorry if that offends anyone, I only speak as I find.

A caravan next to us in Burnham on sea had the water connected to his van, which gave them high water pressure, he hosed his van and car down twice a day, everyday. SAD

to wash or not to wash?

I think the reason people wash caravans etc. on site is because they live in flats etc. and keep their vans etc. in storage. so while out for a weekend etc. its the only chance they get to wash it etc. etc.
  Sundown
