Cleveleys Parking

I'm going to complain to there council the article says the promenade will be enjoyed by everyone !
Except motorhomers by the looks of things:banana:

You should complain. This might be useful to you. The council in this case is Blackpool but when I first saw it I thought the council was Wyre Borough Council. Wyre Borough Council is the next door council and includes Fleetwood and, I think, Cleveleys. Earlier this year Wyre made the same statement about motorhome parking in Fleetwood and that there had been numerous complaints from residents. The council responded to a Freedom of Information request with a full list of complaints made by the public over a three year period.

As is usual for local councils - they had been not quite truthful. Here is the full three year list for the entire area covered by Wyre Borough Council - not just Fleetwood. Not quite truthful is my way of being tactful.

If you were to ask Blackpool Council under the FoI for a similar list then my guess is it will be equally short. There are never any complaints from the public in any appreciable numbers. Never. And none about motorhomes. Now fancy that.

I'll help you with the wording of your request if you want.

This is purely down to the number of motorhomers that used it as a free campsite / long term residence.

I`ve heard people bragging that they`d stayed there a week or two and it hadn`t cost them a penny.

They would leave their motorhomes there to preserve their place and then use the buses / trams to explore the area including Fleetwood and Blackpool.

Whenever we went over that way we would drive along the road just to have a look and it was blatantly obvious that some were living there full time.

I also lost count of the amount of times i saw awnings, tables, BBQ`s, generators, washing lines etc. etc. etc. set up on the footpath.

The perpetrators don`t give a shyte and will just move on to somewhere else that`s free and spoil that for everyone else.

New Brighton very popular at the minute is that going to attract the hoards and will that be next ?

Again a fine location has been lost due to long term stayers often with equipment out and even lighting fires and running generators. The natural reaction of a council is to make such places totally unavailable to motorhomes, especially as in this case given the golden opportunity of a rebuild of the area.
It never seems to happen, but I feel that a far better solution to the problem would be to enforce a maximum stay of for example 24 hours. This measure rarely if ever is used, blanket bans being the norm.

Then it's our fault - what are you who complain about the few spoiling it for the rest of us going to do about it? It's us that's doing it. What are you going to do? Whinging aboiut the few ...etc doesn't seem to do any good.

And yet ...

The public does not complain. Time after time councils tell us of the huge number of complaints they receive from residents and then a simple FoI request discloses that there are no complaints. The public concern is just not there.

If councils do not receive complaints, is there a reason that they regularly ban motorhome parking?

Yes. I can give some examples though not as many as I would like.

North Yorks - Councillor Andrew Backhouse requested motorhome restrictions throughout Scarborough Borough Council. Andrew owned a caravan park - since sold, probably at a better price than he would have got without the restrctions.

Burnham on Sea. Councillor Louise Parkin owner of the pier - where she wanted motorhome restrictins.

Lincolnshire. Councillor Colin Davey who, local rumour had it, was involved in a golf course next door to Huttoft car park where he wanted motorhome restrictions. And there are other local assertions that Colin is involved in renting our static caravans.

These are just in my head right now. There will be more.

Thanks for the offer.I am waiting to see what the parking notices and tariff board says. There are about 10 pay points installed but are not yet activated and still need the info boards putting in them. You can pay by cash ,card, contactless.

A fee for x number of hours is hardly rocket science and they have a similar system at Gynn Square and a few other places and dont seem to have any problems.Perhaps just signage forbidding BBQ's ,tables and such with the threat of a fine would sort the rest

As far as locals complaining, the only nearby houses are at the little bispham end,the part near the slipway is 1000 yds at least from the nearest houses.

24 hr Parking

The IOM Have a good system you set the time you arrive on a clock on the dashboard (like the blue badge system ) signs tell you how long you can stay .2hrs 6hrs 12hr 24hr if your not gone by that time get a fine ... seems to work there very well

The meters are now live, and at the bottom of the tariff board states that HGV's and M/H's are prohibited

That``s a shame  being local when we take the van out for a run we very often used to call in there for an hour or so to have a brew and something to eat.

Not any more, another one bites the dust :mad2:

Sad thing is,they could have made some cash. They wont get enough back from the dog walkers to pay for the meters.
