There appears to be many a MH rolling into Cleethorpes - are there any chap or chapesses enjoying our wonderful town this very evening?

Is there something happening in Cleethorpes? Has the tide come in? I'm just down the road and it's glorious the last few days and I've seen quite a few MH's lately.

Maybe something to do with " That Big Yellow Thing " in the sky, whatever it is ?

This unusual Phenomenon that only occurs every now and then might have caused normally dormant Motorhomes to hatch.........LOL.

Cleethorpes !!!!

Hi Kryten,

Nothing ever happens in Cleethorpes,I thought it was all flat caps and wippets.

Snowbirds.

The old saying "the tide went out in Cleethorpes and never came back" is true in Cleethorpes. It must be the only place in the world where you need to catch a bus to get from the beach (the part with the soft golden sand) to the sea.

Instead of hats that say "kiss me quick" they have hats that say "Get me outta here" and t-shirts printed with "I was suppose to go to Grimsby but got lost"

I spend many a happy summer holiday in Cleethorpes when i was a child during the 60's and early 70's and it still looks the same now. The local council should be encouraging MHers to stay and offer aires type facilities, i think this would bring in some tourists on a regular basis as all the normal type of tourist have long since gone. Of course this won't happen because campsite owners & holiday parks would complain, even though these places are empty for most of the year.

I live in Cleethorpes but I go to Huttoft to be beside the sea, its a lot nicer and at the moment MH friendly..!!

As youngsters we had some great times in cleggy,we used to thumb it down with a sleepin bag on a Friday night and back home Sunday night, the good old days as was:rolleyes2:

Earlier this year we visited Cleethorpes and found the place closed....Huttoff is ok we have used it many times but if your not a sea fisher we can find it slightly boring. I've used a back road at Winthorpe between Skegness and the Butlins holiday camp and find that satisfactory, in the beachcomber bar every night there is free entertainment..

NO ......

Im familiar with Cleggy, the fitties and Mablethorpe, Personally I thinkl all three are run down, possibly casualties of the cheap package deals perhaps and maybe the unpredicibilty of the British Weather too that have seen visitors give them a wide berth.

Mablethorpe has several festivals now during the summer. The Bathing Beauties festival is worth a visit between Sept 13th and 15th

somewhere i have a pic of me winning a baby competition in one of the camps round that way.
found one took by walfreds of skeggy branches at ingoldmells point and anchor lane.
must get back there . have loads of black n white pics from mum n dads cant remember where exactly but lots were taken along that coast .

Ha ha I was playing that game the other day, my brother had scanned a load of B&W snaps of our Mum's & it was fun trying to name long gone aunts, uncles etc & playing "spot the location". Fortunately for me I was being taken on picnics to their favourite 100 courting locations for about 15 years & then I started taking my girlfriends to them on my mo-bike & then car. Then it was my kids & their pals that got the picnic treatment!

I've moved away since, but I still know many of the spots, altho access to many of them has steadily got more & more restricted over the years as gates, bollards, yellow lines, height bars etc etc have proliferated. Ahh well, so it goes.

It could be worth arranging a WC meet to coincide with that. Then we could all enter! :rabbit:

The funny thing is, that particular competition was only a couple of years ago! :baby:

Cornwall

Stick to cornwall has been said ---i just come back from penzance where mhs are less welcome than ever
marizion beach wall road which was a regular overnight parking area on the road has all been stopped --a cycling track been laid instead
the marizion station car park which has been used for overnighting has been relaid and parking notice states no mhs from 11-8 am-- 20p to use the toilets
you ok if you heavy goods though

laybyes on the helston road have signs saying no overnight parking
the large laybyes 2-3 miles from penzance on helston road have been yellow double lined with

spaces for parking but plates say parking for 6 hours with no return for 12 hours (useful or not )

no doubt others have reported these changes but i thought it was worth re-reporting

Cleethorpes Character Assasination

Please before slagging a place off, do study some facts.

The tide comes in twice a day, each new tide is later by about half a hour than the day before in a 24 hour cycle.

Todays high tides were/are 08:17 and 20:49

Tomorrow, the high tides will be 08:50 and 21:25

Cleethorpes has suffered as much as other resorts but may not be as destroyed as some.

Improvements are happening slowly but surely and investment in the town can be seen.

Our biggest problem as the moment is Travellers just parking anywhere and the council starting to gate and barrier places off with height/time restrictions.

The Ice Cream, Fish and Chips, Hot Dogs and Beer are as good here as anywhere in the country and in my opinion better and cheaper. (I have been to a lot of places) Remember the Fish comes from Grimsby 3 miles down the road.

We only eat Fish and Chips in Cleethorpes/Grimsby.

My point is - everything said about Cleethorpes can be said for just about every place in the UK.

Make the best of where you are and don't expect it on its own to enrich your life, you need some input as well.

You may be of the opinion I was one that "slagged" off Cleethorpes, However if you re read the post far from it, I offered valid reasons as to why the town has suffered over the years.

FWIW I spent a considerable time working in the town , TH Brown, Ramsdens, CAM Shipping, Icelandic Freezing plants a small selection of my customers.

For reasons you can explain better than me, there has for years been a lack of investment in the town, and like my home town of Doncaster, Grimsby and Cleethorpes have suffered tragically at the hands of recession particularly the fishing Industry.

At its height, you could go down the docks, jump boat to boat, not get your feet wet and cross the harbour, sadly no longer the case.

Whilst there maybe an attempt to get the tourism back, Cleethorpes is run down, there lies the problem.

For the town to re energise itself it needs visitors and the infrastructure to do so ......but using your own words it needs more than Fish chips, Ice cream and hotdogs.

Whilst it remains shabby, visitors will move on and the town will never get back on its feet, a catch 22 situation.

Would you want to visit an area less attractive than it could be ? considering the expense involved ? Tourists arent interested in doing a town favours....they want it ready made on the doorstep.

The investment at Bridlington, the Spa complex, and proposed redevelopment of the leisure area ( I still call it the 3 b,s ) might give them the edge.....So whats Cleethorpes doing ?
