Cleaning off fly squat

Iso-propyl alcohol is very good for removing all the sticky flies and won't harm the bodywork. (about £12 for 5 litres which you can mix 50/50 with water) much cheaper than brand names which are the same product.

My tip is to do it first thing in the morning while (if) it is still covered in dew before the sun gets on it.

Can you please tell me where you can buy Iso-propyl alcohol for £12.00 for % litres

It won't harm the bodywork and you can re polish/wax it safely again afterwards. Oh, and mix it 50/50 with water as I said, then it doesn't evaporate so quickly.

Perfectly safe to use. Even on laptop screens.

What detergent do you use David, I have tried bobby dazzler but was not dazzled, I usually fairy with a touch of bleach, removes the streaks and re-whitens the plastic trim round the external doors

Detergent will also remove any wax deposits. It simply isn't possible to remove dead flies without removing at least some of the polish. So just give it a nice buff up after you've cleaned them off. I definitely wouldn't use bleach myself

I think you will find that those heavy duty cleaners you mention actually do contain solvents (more likely iso propyl alcohol than not).

Some of the Muck Off variety even contain brake cleaning fluid which I wouldn't recommend either.

Can you mix it with Tonic ????

In post 35 you said,

'Brake cleaning fluid should not be harmful either as it is simply a de-greaser and will evaporate rapidly. As a solvent, it is like alcohol and not a very strong solvent, and only of limited substances.''

I'm not 'banging on' about it, just responding to an erroneous statement you made.
