Can anyone advise on the cheapest ferry to Ireland, not too bothered on which ports to & from, travelling in August, 4 passengers and a Delaware 'van.
Thanks

Cheapest ferry to Ireland

Have recently been to Ireland travelling from Holyhead to Dublin, and back. The cheapest ferry I could find was going by Stena Line on the 02.15 hours crossing.

Thanks for that, It would appear you are the only one who has gone to Ireland!!
Do you remember the cost?
I have been on the Stenna Line website and found that the cheapest was around £400 return for the 'van and 4 passengers. :mad2:

Having the same problem :mad2: Theres only 2 of us and the cheapest we could find was £326 for a return trip from Fishguard to Rosslaire? Think i'll put the cash in the petrol tank and go to Scotland. We never paid anything like that 2 years ago and that was with 4 people!!!

we went last year and paid £300 + ,we were on the 2.15am from holyhead and the boat was empty apart from a few hgv's
i'd forget it and do wale's instead their coast line is great

£326 does not seem that bad when you consider the cheapest I found was just over £400, there again, there is 4 of us.
Its looking like Scotland for us too!!
I had a look at the same dates for Dover-Calais...it came up with £96...that sound cheap??

You could try the AFerry.com website, they are sometimes cheaper than booking direct with the ferry company.

Hi Andy
I tried those people, it gave a a price of £436.
Are these prices right?
Is this what you are all paying?

I think you might be right there Old Arthur, either Wales or Scotland.

I live 5 miles from the Swansea Cork ferry and I had a quote of over £500. It would be far cheaper for us to go to France and still have change.

We were thinking of going over in September and got a quote of £295 for Fishguard-Rosslare from aferry.com (7.5m motorhome, 2 pax over 60)

Ireland trip

We went to Larne from Cairnryan a couple of years ago and used Tesco vouchers on P&O, total cost £30 when the vouchers did the magic. Ordinary ferry over and Cat coming back. I think they are ok to use on Irish Sea Ferries and they go from Fishguard as far as I remember.

Just a thought...

That does not seem bad Andy, I'll have a look at that site, thanks for that.

Think I've found the cheapest way to do it, go to Stena Line and click Low Fares Finder in the menu on the left. You can select the month you want and it gives you the daily prices. Our September crossing has come down to £248 with a bit of adjustment to dates :)

Last time I went was in 2005 with Irish Ferries Fishguard Rosslare £99 return
(In the intervening years the Government has been telling us inflation is about 2%
I often wonder where they get their Inflation statistics from?)

Ferry to N.Ireland.

As you will know, Stena has the route from Stranraer to Belfast & P&O the route from Cairnryan to Larne. There is also a summer route from Troon to Belfast. I live in Scotland but am a native of Co.Antrim and therefore, have to go over quite often on family matters. You are all quite right, due to lack of competition, these two can up the price beyond reason & are in fact, daylight robbers. That is not the end of the story by any means, have a coffee or fish & chips for the family & say goodbye to £100
Hopefully (pigs may fly), the Campbeltown to Ballycastle ferry may come on (been waiting 12 years) & that may be a bit easier. Like you & unless I have to go over home again, it is the East coast of Scotland for me this summer ???. regards Harry.

hmmmm never really thought of Wales, living just over the bridge it never sounds like a holiday if we say we're going to Wales! But you've given me pause for thought Old Arthur thankyou

The in-laws live in Ireland so we often visit with the van + 5 passengers. We use Tesco vouchers and use local crossings (Wales) gets the cash outlay down to around the £150 mark
