Cheap scales for weighing gas bottles

its interesting if you weigh full bottles . makes the 80% bit go out the window. many are almost full and very often under filled .

When you have a refillable AND a standard bottle, you need to know what is in the reserve (standard) bottle before heading off again. So this talk of running bottles empty is a bit simplistic for some of us.

BTW, I got one from Aldi for weighing my bottles as I sometimes finish up with a couple of part filled ones.

in morocco and spain i carry one in my pocket so i can weigh full bottles . you may be surprised but there can be 4 kg difference . i always take the over filled ones . but then i,m a tight git .
reimo the German accessory people have been selling spring balance scales at a high price just for weighing gas bottles for years . i use a cheap fishermans scales .

Got my luggage scales from poundland, checked it out against other scales & its good enough. Weighed my Calorlite bottle when I bought it full from calor & never exceed the weight to be on the safe side. Only use it as a backup to my refillable & for the BBq, its not necessary to try to fill it to the max of 80% as I can fill it any time, tend to only need to about once a year.

Off topic but we weigh pre-packed veg in the supermarket to get the highest weight, a 1kg pack can be 1.3kg, I am also a tight git

Much easier ways to check how much gas you have left.

No need to remove the bottle from the gas locker

Need a cup of boiling water and a cloth or a sponge.

Slowly dribble the hot water down the side of the bottle and catch the water at the bottom.
Wait 10 seconds and run your hand up the side of the bottle where you ran the hot water.

Where the temperature changes from cool to warm is the level of the liquid inside the bottle.

May not work so well with a fibreglass bottle though.

nice link Chris, Im a one bottle van, never even considered weighted my bottle. I stare at it a lot wondering if it will ever run out ! Might go buy one the now¬!
