Argos are selling the Camper version for £229, which is a big saving.

Be aware though that the Garmin reversing camera option that can be added will be a problem. Only the 760 models use the BC20 backup camera, every other model uses the BC30. The BC20 has now been phased out and difficult to get hold of. I have just managed to get one online.

I bought one a month ago from eBay. For the last 4 weeks used it everyday ...along side my tom tom on the iPad. I trust my tom tom so had both running . Without any doubt the tom tom used quicker routes. And not by a few minutes. On say a 250 mile drive the tom tom came in about 40-50 mins quicker. Also the garmin if you didn't do what it told you for the next hour would try and get you back to where you made the mistake...not reroute you from your position. Also it really didn't take no notice of my dimensions. that I put in.
it takes an age to calculate a route. It is nearly impossible to browse map and see custom poi's and then click to get a route to it.
Anybody want to buy mine? 1 month old

Maybe that's why it was on eBay, my Garmin camper 760 doesn't have any of the problems you mention, bought mine from Aldi last year for £199.

My Garmin 760 recalculates almost instantly, the same as the other 3 Garmins that I own and is far faster than any TomTom that I have owned. Typically if you miss a turning on a roundabout most times it will recalculate the route before you even get to the next turning off the same roundabout. I wouldn't know about ETA times being 40mins longer than a TT though. Firstly you need to sure that the actual arrival time is more or less the same as the ETA before you depart at the start of the journey, and it is quite possible that the TT is 40 mins later at the end of the journey anyway.

The Garmin BC20 camera is compatible with the 760LMT models and nüvi® 2798LMT

The trouble is comparing times like that how do you know that the Garmin isn't allowing for roadworks/traffic delays etc that the TomTom might be missing?

I was just pointing out that I had the two running for over 3k miles and the Tom Tom out performed the Garmin every time. If people are happy with their Garmin then that's great. I was unhappy for the reasons I have given. And it is for sale you all know the price of them and as stated mine is a month old and I will take £170 for it.

After searching for about 2 hours, that is where I got mine from. This morning their website said they were out of stock and were waiting for more. I rang them up and found that their website had not been updated.

Halfords and Maplin have discontinued them, other places advertised them but had no stock.

If anyone wants one, they had better be quick. :D

The BC20 is now compatible with nothing. They have stopped making it.

Just checked the Garmin website and they are still showing the BC20 as an accessory. So I am confused now. Did your info come from a dealer or direct from Garmin?

The Garmin website states that it will be up to 2 week delivery date, so I didn't bother as I ideally wanted to buy one over the counter at my local Halfords and Maplin (I wanted it fitted and working before we go away this weekend). When I found that they had discontinued them, I went online and bought one with Express delivery..

Listen, after quite a performance today, I gave out some information which I thought may be helpful, not to cause controversy. From an earlier post, you now know where to get one quicker than direct from Garmin. What you choose to do is up to yourself.

Took me about 5secs to find these:
Garmin BC 20 Wireless Backup Camera for Dezl 760LMT and Camper 760LMT-D Sat Navs: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
BC 20 Wireless Backup Camera | Garmin
BC 20 Backup camera | Maplin
Garmin 010-12043-00 BC20 Wireless Rear View Reversing Camera for Truck & Camper | eBay

And more on Ebay
But yes it is discontinued, so you had indeed better be quick ;)

I use the 2 ie, tomtom truck version and the garmin camper, and having both on at the same time I find the tomtom better than the garmin, also I much prefer tom tom for the facility of finding poi's ie I got loads of them on it and its a matter of browsing the map on it in the direction of my travel, pick an aire on the way and voila' it will take me there no problem, the garmin will do the same only if its in the database, but it will not show the poi on the map, it will show it as the destination point only:juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle:

To be honest, I will not buy another Garmin for the same reasons as yourself.

I am only buying the Garmin reversing camera as it is the cheapest way to get around replacing my current reversing system which is faulty. I already have the Garmin camper satnav, so it made sense. If I ever get my old Tom Tom One back off my Grandson, the Garmin will only be used as a rear view mirror while driving.

The Garmin does however show the POI's as you are driving the route so you can see them when you are in the vacinity, (and anyway it is a simple process to search for any POI on your route before you set off) and by that way it does not clutter up the screen with POI's, mostly one's that aren't realevant to you anyway. It will also find them if you are browsing the map, but for some reason not all the time. I've loads of POI's on my Garmin as well, but so far as French aires are concerned (which is our main concern) niether TT or Garmin give you any indication of what type of aire it is. So we always use the the Garmin (or the TomTom when we had it (4 of them, all were not brilliant) in conjuction with 'All the Aires' book. So once we have confirmed an aire to be Ok in the book it is a simple process to find it on the satnav (Garmin or TomTom). The main difference I have found between the Garmin and the TT is the uprate speed and the Garmin is miles quicker than the TomTom. The TomTom's that I have owned in the past have always seemed very 'clunky' in operation compared to the Garmin. Maybe the newer TT's (this years)are better.
