Charging a wheelchair in the van

I hope someone can help here as I am a complete numpty with electric.
I am reliant on an electric wheelchair most days so need a way to charge it from my van.
The present charger is 220 volts in and 24 out.
There are charger on e bay etc., specially for the job but like everything that there is limited sales , they are very expensive. starting at about 140 pounds and going up. I really need to have the charger hard wired into the van.

There must be a better way of doing this. Any comments please are very welcome.

Couldn't you fit a 240 volt inverter off your leisure batteries, then plug your 220volt to 24 volt charger into that.

First - Speak to your wheelchair supplier, they may have an off the shelf solution for you. If not they may be able to give you reliable advice on what to look for. Avoid eBay unless you know exactly what you need.

Second - If you supplier can not help find out the charge rate of your charger - have a look at the charger and you will see 220 volts and a figure in Amps or Watts, you should also see 24 volts and a figure in Amps or Watts. It is impossible to suggest an affordable solution without more information.

Third - A 12 volt to 24 volt DC/DC Converter may be a better solution than an Inverter solution.

Hi there,
I always managed to charge my electric bike from my maplin 1000watt inverter without any problems. I used switch the inverter on all the time that we were driving. The bike batteries were 36volt can't remember the capacity. Cheers Brian

Thanks for the answers everyone. Think I shall go for the 12-24volt inverter. if I can't raise enough money to buy one of the makers chargers. although the ones made by the wheelchair company can be hard wired into the van and also left on all the time as they will not drain the car battery.

surely the battery are 12 volt so charge them from solar panel so fit switch to seperate the two batterys into two twelves and charge from solar panel dont have to fit a switch use the plug when you plug in charger to act as a switch
