Celebrate - our camper is back safely.

Delivered back tonight after 2.5 K miles in France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgiun and Holland by grateful son and partner.
Just a few niggles to sort our with the dealer (mainly water tank gauge) and the waste water tank smells, so looks like there could be a block, put on the cowl cover that he lost and we're away.
HOORAY!!!!!!!

Yes Sam we were up most of the night. They had a super time and are converts to motorhomes (already asked if they could borrow it next year).
They were impressed by German overnight stops and in Poland they could stop anywhere!! Although they booked in a campsite near Eurodisney they spoke to a lot of motorhome owners who overnighted on the main car park, so that's worth knowing, we might try it ourselves, love Eurodisney.
Comments about the van drinking diesel (we are sure he's a bit heavy footed) and how intimidated he found boarding the ferry with all the lorries. But got some tips from his 'road test', such as use a travel hairdrier and not bother with a domestic electric kettle
Just waved them off back to Manchester.
We will do a few days in North Yorks but just booked the ferry to France on 11th.

Wouldn't bother about the water tank gauge. It's an Autoquest and Compass feature that it never reads correctly

When we picked up our (second hand) van the gauge wasn't working so the sales lady put one on order. Took it back and had the work done later and it's still as bad.

We soon got used to approx how much water we use in different circumstances so know how often to top up and by how much.

Thanks Graham, that's saved a lot of hassle.
You know what it's like trying to tell the dealer that it's not working when the needle shoots up the dial.
I'll concentrate for a week and work it all out.

thats great that they had such a great time,we too love eurodisney,the shows are fantastic there..we went a few years ago & stayed on site in the santa fe complex (before we had a m/h) we watched the buffalo bill show at night which was magic & the day time stunt show...wow!! we would like to go again but its so expensive,i cant remember how much a pint of beer was but it was a fair few euro's & that was a few years ago....too expensive for our moth eaten wallets...

Now we've sorted the gas out (got a pigtail and pipe to attach to reg. for camping gaz) So we will take one full calor and our half full gaz to swop when it's empty. The boy says we need a flat hose for the water, so will get that and have already got a collapsible container and tundish with a flexible spout, also been told that it would be useful to have a bucket with a spout on for the odd occassion on sites to empty waste water. Electrics, with the unfathomable problem of reversed polarity, has been sorted by one adaptor having polarity reversed.
It's amazing how much can be got from the net and the genorosity of knowledge of others.
Tempted by French Passion, but will try wild and aires this time.
Booked the ferry bought the tea bags and can't wait for the 11th.

Hi gill. we had the same problem on the last van in spain.
all we could do was empty every time we stopped but thats not always possible.
our new van has small traps(about the size of a travel sweet tin) fitted under the floor which are like the u bend on house sinks only flat section.
they look very easy to fit just by cutting the rigid waste pipe leading to the tank and inserting in said gap. the bottom unscrews to allow any blockage to be cleared. these work very well as they form a water seal between tank and wastes.guaranteed to work!!!!
dont know where to buy them or how much but shouldn't be to difficult to find.
i dont think chemical tank cleansing is very effective longterm.

Sorry Gill, should have picked up on this yesterday.

We had a bit of a niff from our Autoquest sink once last year so bought some Fenwicks Fendox and that's sorted it.

These days we tend to empty the waste tank nearly every day whilst we are away. When we get back from a trip we clean around the wasbasin and sink with the Fendox neat on a cloth and then rinse, before emptying the waste tank.

From time to time I also pull out the drop down washbasin to pour a drop of neat Fendox down the back plus some down the sink and shower drain and then give each a rinse. When the washbasin is out you can get a washing up brush or bottle brush down to clean up any soap deposits.

To give the waste tank itself a clean, pour a solution of Fendox down one or more of the outlets then go for a 20 mile drive to agitate the solution then drain the waste tank when you get back.
