Hi,I've got a 1990 Talbot Express Autostratus with a Carver heater. All gas appliances work fine apart from the heater. When i push the piezo lighter down I get a shock off the front of the heater cover and obviously it wont light.
Is this an easy fix or should I get someone in???
Answers on a postcard please........

It will need to be taken apart,
It could be that the single wire from the button is earthing on the panel, simple job just make sure the wire at least 1cm from any metalwork,
If OK, then it is possibly the ceramic holder where it lights the gas is cracked or knacked, it should all be held together with self tappers, so should be fairly easy to replace the whole piezo unit from button to ceramic holder.

what model is the carver heater because if its like the one in our van the ignighter is in the heater unit itself, and you will need to dismantle the heater to get at it after removing the whole unit. mine is a carver 4 if i am not mistaken .as far as i know the only difference with the manual lighting model and mine is. mine lights automaticaly when you opperate the thermostat ( well it would do if it was working ) it has a ignighter problem and it is going to be as cheap to repace the whole heater with a second hand heater as get it repaired i have been told that the ceramic ignighters are a bit thin on the ground for the older models also as the unit needs to be removed and stripped i think it is best left to the pros to do you cannot be too carefull with gas it goes off with a big bang

hi about the heater problem ,i have seen some second hand units for sale on ebay between 20 to 50 quid mabey it would be cheaper and somewhat easier to replace your heater with another
