Cartgate services on A303 going.

Stopped at Cartgate Rest area the other day as it is a good place from home to the West Country , we normally park overnight there .
However there were petition forms being given out objecting to the Somerset Council closing it and then it being passed to WELCOME BREAK. As a full service area and the existing cafe being closed for them to make it into a commercial entity there will be the normal £24 parking charges and the Lorries not being able to stop overnight unless they pay.
The charges also apply to cars and motor homes staying for more than 2 hours. I thought that I am not the only one that dislikes the idea but it seems it is now a done deal.

With councils strapped for cash, I am not surprised. These areas have to be maintained, so offloading to a company that will take that on is a sensible idea. Just join CAMpRA and encourage to placing of Aires. So you can then use one for a stopover. Thing is, you would have to pay, like you do in a Welcome Break car park, so I guess that is the problem?

what a shame but with the traffic problems on the 303 (Stonehenge) we shall probably use the m5/m4 route from now on
