Cardiff

When we first went we where intending to park in the Sophia Gardens carpark (which I believe has parking for vans) to visit city centre and then move on in the evening, I think we must have seen a sign saying 'campsite' as we turned in and decided to investigate, as we drove into the park thought we must have taken a wrong turn, but no there it is behind a hedge right where everyone walks/jogs/cycles.

Another vote for the Cardiff Caravan Site here. It's a municipal site, Very helpful and friendly reception; decent sized pitches; dated but usable facilities block. It's right on Bute Park so a lovely walk into the centre. From Bute Park you can also get a river ferry down to the Bay area. Also the Park is on the cycle route up to Castell Coch too. It's a shorter walk to Cathedral road which is a local centre with shops, resto's etc

For anyone searching on this thread in the future, a couple of things about the site though: it gets booked up very early if there is an event on at the Principality Stadium so book early. Also we found that the site was in a wifi/mobile phone blackspot for EE coverage. There is free wifi at reception which works well but not on the rest of the site.

The cycle hire place (they gave a café too from memory) is a really thriving business. They seem to do a fair deal of outreach stuff too and have a number of dual bikes for folks who would struggle on their own.

Tried to book it months ago and it was full. But thanks.

We've stayed there a couple of times out of season, surprisingly quiet for a campsite in a city centre, it does get booked up when there's anything on at the stadiums.
Think we might be at cross purposes here Colin. I was referring the the public car park for buses and cars that tolerates MHs at the end closest to the city. Not the Caravan and Camping site the other end past Glamorgan's cricket gound in Pontcanna fields.

But when you head in on the valleys road there’s a big sign that says you are entering a low emissions zone , I use it to navigate by to head to brother in laws as he lives just out of it 🤔
If the 50mph speed limit doesn't work the welsh government now have a law to impose charges though it has not happened yet. The emission zone is the a470 Valleys road and the m4 motorway.
The port talbot to newport section of m4 is 50 mph for most of its length with camera's.

Fisherman if you look on cardiff council website for info you might find the parking area behind the law courts I put up is used for concerts for motorhome parking as they open the showers and toilets under courts. ( I've not used them)
Though pontcanna fields is ok.get there early as cardiff get busy on concert days.
Or phone campsite as they do get cancellations

Well this morning I emailed the campsite only to be told they are fully booked. I then phoned them and was told we can get in on the Monday but not the Tuesday. I explained our situation never have been to Cardiff, and he then went away for a minute or so and came back and we are now booked into Cardiff campsite for both nights.
Thanks to everyone who has helped.
Very much appreciated.

They have several pitches which they only usually let regulars who know what they are like or those who have rocked up and can see them first, they have rubber track pads and can be muddy, they only let campervans on them not usually motorhomes, the fact that our van is a XLWB and 3.5t doesn't seem to register with them. 😜

That'll be a long day out mind as it's a fair lick to Skomer from Cardiff

We walked to Sophia gardens carpark from the campsite last night, and could not believe the cost of parking there. £24.50 for 24 hours. That’s only £8 less than the campsite.

Hell that was £11 last time we were there...and that had just increased from £9 which I thought was a big jump.
