Thinking on rejoining as we’re not going abroad this year
Can I get your thoughts and advice on this please
All advice tips thoughts greatly appreciated

The Camping and Caravan Club sites are cheaper both site wise and membership wise and if you are over 60 you receive a 30% discount on the adult price off peak not July and August. And they do a day rate of around £7 if you want to visit and service your motorhome.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club have the more extensive site network and their sites can be cheaper when compared to competitor local commercial sites offering similar services.

Both have apps.

We use pitchup.com to find local sites in the areas we are interested in touring. Very often there is a club site in the area or a cheaper certificated site but not always in as convenient location as non club sites. Club sites can be a bit isolated when compared to other sites nearer centres of population. However we prefer to wild camp if possible when touring and only use sites every 3 or 4 days. We object to paying money for a muddy field with limited facilities which sadly many certicated sites are in out of season months. Club sites are nearly all hard standing.

It’s pretty much down to where you are touring and whether there are suitable club sites in those areas. If there are then it’s worth joining. We are members of both clubs simply because they both have convenient sites in areas we visit a lot and we can get the full out door kit out barbie chairs table gazebo etc for the duration of a week or more on a site when we are visiting and not touring.

PS for readers of this topic who are not full members of wildcamping.co.uk it is well worth becoming fully paid up members here to have full access to the database of POIs!

We mainly use the CL Sites but we have been on the Club Sites as well. Nothing like a really hot shower with lashings of water when you have been been using the onboard facilities. We talked about what we are doing in the Spring and have booked a few CLs down in Devon and Cornwall. Some are full already over the Easter and May Bank Holidays. We have done a few trips to France and Spain but we do like the Uk. When you think how much it all costs it's certainly going to be cheaper staying in the Uk and with ****** due who knows whats going to happen.

safety net

Been a member for two years and only used one CL site but still worth it. Sensible insurance discount, monthly magazine which is the usual format of adverts and a bit of interesting stuff plus a crossword. The main thing is when touring in the UK it is a great safety net if no wild spots are around or you want the showers, charging, filling and emptying time!

We're in C&CC

They give a discount on ferries, which pays the membership fees.
We only used one Cl,in our 4 month Uk visit.
It's there as as standby..and costs us nowt

Many CL sites are closing down as the Caravan Club have increased their insurance rates drastically this year and the CLs are not making enough money to pay for the upkeep,

The cl's are getting fewer and they are getting more expensive too. Some are £20 a night now.
Such a shame...
Having said that there are still some cheap ones without electric which is what we like when not wilding.
We did find the cl's were cheaper than the c&cc club because the c&cc charge includes 2 children which we don't have!

Caravan Club also do the reduced ferry fares which we use most years.

Don't use the club sites much as find them crowded and rather precious...

Camping and caravanning club for us BUT only use their small 5 pitch sites with limited facilities (don't want or need club houses, swimming pools etc...
Price is usually less than a tenner on most of the ones we use...

Won't have anything to do with the caravan club or whatever they call themselves these days...
Far too many rules/regs and Nazi like site stewards involved for my liking.

In the CCC and use their temporary holiday sites, frequently. I plan ahead and use them as a stopover from home to Dover

We use them a lot nowadays and tend to just wild on our way from one to another. Never use Club Sites but use the odd CS.

We recently joined CMC because as has been mentioned that if when wilding your unable to find a suitable place it’s a safety net and for us we can’t get out of the hot shower just bliss. Also when going to London it’s ideal to visit off spring. Yes we had to park as told by the peg!! However the site was quite so we had our pick of a pitch

We are members of the CMC but hardly ever use their sites, and I think I might ditch them after this year. We never use the big sites - who wants to park in neatly manicured rows of caravans and motorhomes and pay through the nose for the privilege - not me. We have used the CLs a few times but generally find they are pretty boring affairs stuck in some field in the middle of nowhere - much rather wildcamp and then find a cheap site to do the basics with water etc.

I also don't like the fact that they say they cater for motorhomes now but it seems to be in name only unless I have missed something.

Unless you feel that you really need to pay to use someones version of what you already drive around with and 'Wild Camping.co.uk' doesn't totally fit the bill (and truthfully, it on occasions doesn't), B*** S***s can often help fill the void. Although in some ways they are the competition, they do have some rather interesting alternatives. We joined the Caravan & Camping club this year, but for various reasons were only able to use one cs, so probably won't renew. But as it always is, 'it's 'orses for courses', and whatever you feel comfortable with---------go for it

I'm a member of both, but I use the C&CC more as the THSs are so useful. The cost of nembership varies from £39 for online membershjp of the C&CC to £52 for membership of the CMC. If you join the C&CC quoting the membership number of a current member they get a free gift. I don't know if the CMC has a similar scheme.

If paying for a site I always thought C&MC sites were top notch re standards and usually well located as long as you can put up with some of the stewards approaches.

Ccc v cmc

Been a member of both clubs for a few years now both clubs quite expensive now but facilities are top notch cmc probably just a little bit better
Never had trouble with site staff always found them helpful and polite

I'm in both. I prefer the C&MC certicated locations, and there seems to be more of them. Some of their club sites are located right in the town centre, eg York and Bristol, which is good for a sightseeing day or two. The C&CC are perhaps more informal and the old f*rts discount is good, together with the temporary sites.
Although I enjoy wilding I do occassionally like to get the chairs and bbq out, and have a shower without thinking of having to fill the tank.
