Canal wc cassette dump

The Trouble is,
A lot of the ‘Service Points’ are actually unmanned !.

Then possibly the fairer option is to find somewhere else to dump,
OR approach CRT for a cost for a key explaining that you're happy pay to be able to dump your cassette in CRT facilities rather than being a freeloader?

My point too think there’s more motorhomes than boats passing through this area spending loads more in the local area so why build these dump points and facilities just for the sole use of the wealthy boat owners who are far fewer In numbers by a large margin. why not let motorhomes use them too and put a small charge a couple of quid. I don’t have a problem paying for a service. There’s a canal about 500yds from my front door they’ve spent tens of millions on it it’s even had lottery grants for millions over the last twenty years and it costs a fortune to maintain the thinking was it’ll bring tourists in I’m lucky if I see one boat a day passing along it so why not spend some of this money on an existing untapped tourist market the motorhomer.

I agree that it would be fair to pay to use the Elsan points. I think there is the opportunity here for CRT to make money for probably very little if any cost as a few more cassette dumps from motorhomes will not make a material difference. CRT only charge £7 for a key, so that's not going to make them much. The keys being sold on ebay are copies so CRT make no money at all from these sales.

The challenge is getting all the interested parties together to come up with a sensible proposal. I know forum members here have been down this road with local authorities. It is something we don't seem able to do in the UK. Dumping your cassette is no problem at all in New Zealand and Australia, and of course France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, etc.,

It is frustrating when proper, and probably underused, facilities are available on the canals but bureaucracy gets in the way of MHs using them. Around 25% of the CRT's annual income is from DEFRA, i.e. tax payers - so there is an argument for sharing facilities.

If there is no one to ask then you don't have permission.
I agree,
Absolutely right on that way of thinking & hard to argue with that isn’t it as it’s how it should be with everything in an ideal world.

I bought my first key directly from BWB DONKEY YEARS ago when I had my second boat (Somerset Lady). I Then Bought another key around 20 years ago directly from CRT when I had my Third boat (Merak), BOTH times I wasn’t asked ANY details on either a Personal, Craft OR Licence Level. So long as I paid the few quid both these organisations that at one time or another Owned or Managed the Waterway infrastructure was happy to supply me with one.
The Third Key (& the one of two I still have) I can remember buying from a Chandelier @ Keynsham marina when I had my last boat (Nulife42), & the Last Key (The second of the two I still have somewhere) I actually had ‘Issued’ to me when I co-Ordinated volunteers & worked doing Litter pick & Clean ups along various stretches of Rivers & Canals Around the country along stretches that funnily enough was primarily in or not far from Cities !.
So obviously by applying for or Buying ‘Keys’ without restrictions or guidelines of use attached to its purchase it ‘Infers’ permission to actually ‘USE’ it for what it is intended.
Well to my mind it does anyway but then again I’m a mindless Zombie,,,,
& apparently now a ‘Freeloader’
🤣🤣🤣😊

The 'freeloader' comment wasn't aimed at you NZ... It was aimed at the sort of folks that would buy a copy key from ebay etc specifically to use free dump points....

To be fair if these waterways are subsidised by us taxpayers it seems wrong that there facilities are for the exclusive use of those who can afford a boat .
