A while ago we stayed at CR Long Buckby. This is on the Grand Union Canal and has a wc cassette disposal point in the car park. We did not use it as this was the first night on our travels.

Are there any issues with using canal dump stations?
Is there a POI list of them?
It would solve the challenge of dumping the cassette in a proper way, i.e. using facilities that are purposely designed for this.

If you zoom in on the map https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/canal-and-river-network services, including ‘Elsan’ disposal locations, are shown. There appear to be a lot of them, maybe not all easily accessible by road. A Canal & River Trust Key is needed to access some of the sanitary stations.

They are for emptying cassette toilets on narrow boats so i would say if you can access it it would be fine to dump yours their.

Well primarily they are supplied & Maintained for Watercraft users, & funded in some capacity through the licence that they pay.
So ‘Maybe’ going to be frowned upon by some if we use them having not contributed in any way 🤔.
A lot require a ‘BWB Key’ Some have Showers & Fresh water outlets as well.
I lived some 25 years on Boats & was lucky enough to travel widely,
Yes, I Have used them while in ‘The Nest’ & Probably still will.
I certainly use a lot of the Private Marina ones all over the country & am happy to pay a few pounds to ‘Fill & Dump’.
I have used Council Toilets to Dump Cassette Waste in Occasion & ‘Kinda’ justify my reasoning as I’m a Vehicle & Road user that pays my dues & Taxes On Money earned while traveling the infrastructure of the uk supporting places that I visit through my purchases in local businesses of that area.
(Yeah I know it’s tentative but it works for me).

I seem to recall reading somewhere fairly recently that CaRT frowned upon motorhome/campervan owners using their facilities, which are intended for boaters use only.

Maybe worth there while charging us and making some money ? It's only sheeit

I have to say as someone that lived aboard for over ten years....
I'd have been pretty miffed to say the least if I'd caught some freeloader emptying their toilet in the CDP or their rubbish in the bins provided for boaters to use...
Especially as CRT or as it was back the British waterways used to charge us boaters handsomely for the use of their facilities.

Probably annoying yeah absolutely,
I have over the years (& Still did up until two years ago) been on several volunteer ‘Waterway Clean ups’ on various stretches. & I have to be honest & say I personally would much rather see someone dispose of Black Waste responsibly in a purpose made Facility than Chuck it in a Hedge or wherever, especially as you don’t even have to give your Waterways License Number when you purchase a BWB (Yeah I Still call it that) Key, Literally anyone can get one !. (Or at least that was the case at that time).

I know a couple of these sites on Loch Lomond for the use of boats I was using one near a slipway and a park ranger said it would be ok this one time but he more or less begged me not to put it on any websites on the internet. It’s at the slipway on pier rd balloch over beside the slipway next to the fence😂😜

If you lived in this area there is a boat snobbery thing they’ll build marinas slipways with huge car parks beside them exclusively for the use of boat owners who very rarely use these facilities and pay very little for the use of them. But ask them to put a few facilities for MHs and it’s a different story in summer you can count hundreds of motorhomes passing through the area on a daily basis with no parking or facilities. Same with golf courses in this area built for the elite few but taking up some of the most prime scenic places around Scotland. And for listening these dump points I don’t see that any different to dumping in a public toilet and if it’s wrong then half the dump points on the poi’s are wrong too.

I guess if you use the environmentally friendly fluids in the cassette, I have them on the Van, then there is nothing wrong with dumping the waste in the public toilets, council ones, as @Nesting Zombie has already stated. Anywho I will likely be doing similar soon.....

Apart from the fact that boaters pay/contribute to their provision via a boat licence etc....

I'd pay good money to see the looks on folks faces if a boat turned up and plugged into a motorhomers hook up point that they had paid for.

Bit tricky getting the canalboat overland though into the campsite one would need a very large lorry with a massive trailer!
