Can I run a laptop without a hook-up?

Hey! Does anyone know if it's possible to use my laptop in my motorhome without being on an electric hook-up? Have got a dongle (ooh matron!) but unsure how to power it. I have 2 x 110 leisure batteries and am hoping to get solar panels soon.

Yes - get yourself a 12 volt laptop power supply suitable for the power (watts) rating of your laptop. Search on the internet for '12 volt universal laptop power supply'. It is worth paying a bit extra for a decent one to make sure it can cope and not cause any harm to your laptop.

I use one and charge my laptop when it is switched off and only reconnect it if I have to.

Or you can use a small pure sinewave inverter. This option allows you to use it for running phone chargers, cordless drill chargers and the like as well as the computer. 150W inverter is usually big enough.

Charging and using a laptop can draw 7 or 8 amps from the battery (regardless of which method you use) so this can be a big draw on the battery if you are parked up for two or three days.

It is more than 6 months since the original question was asked re a laptop. Members kindly gave up their time and experience to help this member.

Why did she never get back to say she was sorted. I suppose a thanks would be out of the question as well?

Please have the good manners to follow up when your problem is solved and inform the helpers.
