Can I pick your collective brains?

The chances are that the plastic from which fresh water tanks (particularly in older motorhomes) will not be BPA-free. FWIW, I've just had a look at some Fiamma tanks and nothing is mentioned there about "BPA free" so, as that would be a selling point, I assume that even current tanks are not. This is one reason why Jan won't drink from the fresh tank and why we carry 20 litres in separate containers where the water gets renewed at least every three days.

Ive never done anything with our water tanks in eleven years of ownership and its never done me any harm.

The look of your face in the attached picture shows signs of ewwwww should it sound like that whilst sitting on the throne tones about it for sure :)

last winter i did not use the van for several months. i left some water in it. i have drained it, so i thought, more than once since then and use the water for boiling for hot drinks/washing up.

This last weekend i was away with newly filled half full water tank and several lumps of strange "matter" started coming out of the kitchen tap which is fed by the main tank - i can only describe these lumps as about 1-3" in length, semi-transparent, with grey thick streaks inside, a bit mucusy in texture and they definitely put me off drinking or using it. Could this be from the pipework rather than the tank? i have another 10gallon transparent fresh water container with a small submersible water pump in it. On the odd occasion that i have not emptied that when not using the van for a while, i have then removed the submersible pump and found that its tubing had gone a nasty shade of dark grey which was easily cleaned with puriclean....

any ideas anyone?

i have the van currently parked at an odd angle on a hill to ensure that all the water drains out of the tanks and then i can start again.

btw - i learnt a new thing on this thread.... i should empty at least some of my main tanks water via the sink and waste tanks to help flush the pipes through as well.... no newby question is a dumb one.. we all learn something new from answers on here.....

tastes odd

if it is going in your mouth it needs to be either fresh or have been boiled. If you are using an on board shower with hot water it needs to be less than 7 days old. In the shower keep the aerosol effect to a minimum. Yes clean everything at the beginning of the year, and dont leave any water in the system unless you are going somewhere. Otherwise Typhoid Lilly is waiting along with stuff i cant spell.:danger::danger::danger::danger:

FILTERS - who uses them?

Over 7 yrs of travel around Europe we have found a variety of contaminants in water: sand, dirt and rust being some. Similar to others we also use a seperate 15L water tank and use the main tank for showers and washing. Have never purified, but do flush tanks when left parked.

Not that we do but curious if others use a filter or have a filtration system?

I'm not sure I've read of many cases of typhoid in the motorhoming community, or anywhere else in Britain for that matter.
