I have just purchased as our first motorhome a 1996 p reg ford transit flair autosleeper. We have been supplied with a 5 stud alloy spare wheel but have nowhere to store it. The original 4 stud wheel was stored under the tail gate. Any suggestions as to where we can store this. Thank you all

You could try joining the Transit forum and ask your question on there, but are you sure that a 5 stud wheel will fit your vehicle if the original spare was a 4 stud version?

We have a ford transit auto sleeper with alloy wheels all round, therefore the spare wheel is the same. The wire for caring the spare is for a four stud wheel. so it does not line up with the 5 stud. Also the appature for the 5 stud is smaller than the 4. Also where would I find the ford transit forum. ~Thank you all

THEY NEVER MADE A 4 STUD TRANNY :scared: 5 & 6 stud only alloy wheels still have the same hole centers as the steel wheels they didn't fit different axles for alloy wheels

maybe the wire broke and someone fitted the wrong wire . best just make the right end. speak to a scrap yard or someone thats local and switched on.hope you are good at welding old trannies are rust free.

never seen a 4 stud transit, even the mark one was 5 stud ,are you shure all four wheels have 4 studs. as old arthur says the alloys and steel wheels are a straight swop ,but use the alloy wheel studs they may be diferent

try asking for help on fordtransit.org

that hawser is off a twin wheel 6 studer ? but as you say the center hole will be to small to allow that type of fitting through anyhow :cool1:
phil how is your ally spare wheel attached?

spare wheel (Phil)

Hi Thanks to every one for their help. Phil could you please tell me how your spare wheel is attached and where. It would be greatly appreciated. As at the moment we are carrying it inside on the shelf above the driver.

surely the important thing is ...does the spare fit the vehicle , correct offset , PCD etc

if the alloys are the orig ford fit then yes all will be ok your only problem comes when fitting other manufacturers wheels the stud holes may line up to the eye but not match fully. also there are stud or nut diferences when changing from steel wheels to alloys ie from steel to alloy on the transit you need to use the correct nuts or studs , there are some wheels that are interchangable between different makes of viehcle ie bmw and vauxhall to name one.

My wheel fits at the rear of the van behind the tow bar, it has a small center piece that does not go through the wheel bolt holes.
