I used the AA last year on a 2 week trip to France and it cost £90
This year I rang for a quote on a weeks skiing trip and a full years cover.
The 1 week trip went up to £140 and the year was £200:confused:

Admittedly the van is a 1995 so its a 'higher risk' but when I mentioned last years price suddenly they could offer discount to £90 and £140 for year.

Its annoying and I take that to mean they would rip you off if you don't ask!!!

Suppse I shouldnt be too surprised!

Anyway, does anyone know of any better (mainly cheaper!!) European policy's?

Thanks in advance
Nick

Biggirafe Rapid Recovery, Not the best but trying hard, Expect little and you won't be disappointed ;)

It depends on a lot of things
How old is the van?
How long are you going for?
What type of cover do you want, Comprehensive, repatriation or just take me to a garage.

:)

The vans a 1995. Compass Drifter 7mtr

probably would have at least some form of repatriation cover just in case of total engine failure.

Not so bothered about hire cars or paid travel etc just roadside cover and if all else fails get the van home!! :D

We either want a weeks cover now and 2 in summer or years cover

Vans over a certain age have problems, We had probs getting cover via insurance companies so ended up getting seperate insurance and breakdown using Brittania. They took all our details, age of van etc etc and gave us an individual quote. They also allow you to buy your UK cover for the year and then add european for the time you need upto 6 months continuous out of the country.

Other will be along I'm sure with some good advice, but I think the age of your van may restrict your choices.

Just looked at ADAC website.

Thanks, will be e-mailing Stefanie tommorow!!:D:D

And hopefuly canceling the AA direct debit for my UK cover!!!

only problem, they cant accept uk credit/debit cards on the website...they have different bank sort and account codes to us

debit cards may work on the phone but a cheque is easiest.

Says on their website "membership requires that your place of residence is in Germany"
How does that work? Cheers

Site says

'Using the links below to acquire ADAC membership requires that your place of residence is in Germany. For technical reasons, our system does not support international addresses'

I've e-mailed so will keep you posted...:)

News so far - looks good

Dear Mr. Morley,

Thank you very much for your communication.

Beside the tried and tested ADAC membership there is the ADACPlusMembership: it combines the traditional club membership with ADAC Euro-Schutzbrief.

Being an ADACPlusMember constitutes a major extension of services in Germany for you. Furthermore, we offer you financial safeguards in other European countries. In the event of illness and injury we will even protect you worldwide. The costs of medical treatment by a doctor or in a hospital on journeys, however, are not covered by the ADACPlusMembership.

The attractive service package of the ADACPlusMembership protects you and your spouse/partner when driving your own and also other party's vehicles in Germany and Europe-wide following a breakdown, accident and theft. In addition each other driver may claim the same services, when driving a vehicle that is registered in your or your spouse's name. With the following services we will help you, if the protected vehicle is no longer mobile owing to an accident or if it was stolen:

- Breakdown and accident assistance (Paragraf 23) to EUR 200.-
- Assistance with lost or defective car keys (Paragraf 24)
- Towing (Paragraf 25) up to EUR 200.-
- Off-road recovery (Paragraf 26)
- Accommodation costs after vehicle loss (Paragraf 27)
- Transfers after vehicle loss (Paragraf 28)
- Travel expenses after loss of driver (Paragraf 29)
- Vehicle transportation (Paragraf 30)
- Passenger transport 'Pick-up' (Paragraf 31)
- Spare parts despatch (Paragraf 32)
- Vehicle customs clearance and scrapping (Paragraf 33)

The person-related PlusServices following illness and injury are even provided to you, your spouse/partner and your minor children on journeys worldwide, regardless of the means of transport chosen. The PlusServices following illness and injury include:

- Medical repatriation (Paragraf 12)
- Accommodation expenses (Paragraf 13)
- Hospital visit (Paragraf 14)
- Escort service for children (Paragraf 15)
- Non-scheduled return (Paragraf 16)
- Assistance in special emergencies (Paragraf 17)
- Repatriation of pets (Paragraf 18)
- Medication and spectacles despatch (Paragraf 19)
- Assistance with the loss of travel documents (Paragraf 20)
- Interpreters service (Paragraf 21)
- Vehicle recovery in the event of vehicle loss in Europe
(Paragraf 22)
- Credit services

The comprehensive safety of the ADACPlusMembership is available to you for an annual fee of EUR 79,50. As your wife is included in the ADACPlusCover, she would not need the associate membership.

The ADACPlusMembership protects all vehicles regardless of the vehicle type, which do not exceed the following measures and dimensions:

max. vehicle length 10,- m
max. total length 2,55 m
max. total height 3,- m Motorcaravans max. 3,20 m

The insurance covers free of charge the towed one-axle trailer which includes the above mentioned dimensions and weights (including cargo). Trailers whose axles are less than 1 m apart are regarded as one-axle trailers.

For motorhomes exceeding the defined maximum dimensions, the following benefits shall be excluded:

- Off-road recovery (Paragraf 26)

Euroassistance is cheaper than AA and RAC for a 2 week trip.

Happy Camping:)
