Campsites to reopen

Here in N. Ireland the executive have announced the opening of campsites, caravan parks, second homes, hotels, B&Bs etc on 20th of July.

This is of course subject to current downward trend continuing. There is some talk that caravan and camp sites may open ahead of the 20th. Again depending on events.

don't know if that's good or bad, getting used to having the closed CL site we are on all to ourselves. having said that i wouldn't mind a trip away

Whilst this is indeed good news and a step towards freedom and normality I will not be joining the throngs headed out to where ever.
I'm not in a high risk group and maybe being over cautios but I'm gonna sit it out for a while. I have three granddaughters who will soon be returning to school (no dates yet) which I see as a significant risk and when they do I will in all likelyhood keep my distance. I think everywhere will be rammed to the gunnels as we (as far as I'm aware) are not welcome in Europe yet. I know on sites they distance pitches so not a problem not sure I'll enjoy the experience. Turmoil ensues.

I saw the briefing a couple of weeks ago that the article's referring to. Jonathan Van Tam had been asked specifically about camping a week or so before and one of the journos followed up on it because JVT had promised he would go away and look into it. When asked again, he said with a bit of a twinkle that he had looked at it and had his opinion and advice on it ready for "when the government asked me for it" :) So no further forward at the moment but it seems such an obvious first move towards people being able to have a holiday that I hope it won't be too long coming. I wonder if it'll be one of the tweaks that comes up on lockdown review day,15th June? More likely July but fingers crossed eh? :)

Who knows but I bet its going to be a scramble to get a pitch and I think I would be choosing very carefully to try and avoid the crowds. Will see how it pans out.

I think Britstops or similar could be a good option at quieter locations (once pubs reopen). Enjoy a drink and retreat to own environment if you feel it is too crowded for comfort and also help support a business that has significantly suffered for the last 3 months and for a while longer I bet. I am sure the Landlord/lady will be happy for the custom.

Caravans and Motorhomes are going to be in demand ££££££. Trouble is all the sites will be booked up.

Speaking with the lady where mine is in storage she told me there has been a significant number of people who have yet to buy a motorhome/caravan looking for storage. So it looks as if demand will be high if repeated elsewhere.

I guess the best first option for holidays would be self catering houses and chalets where toilets etc aren't shared. They can then be thoroughly cleaned on changeover day.
I would not fancy using shared facilities on campsites with hundreds of others.....

I am 100% convinced Motorhome/Campervan sales (and vans to convert) will go through the roof this summer and will stay that way for years

You might be right. Ive been on the look out for a new van for donkeys years (bit choosy) and the few I had my eye on that fit the bill I am sure (ish) are all already £3-4K more than they were a couple of months ago on Autotrader when this all kicked off.

Then again. You would think big ticket items like motorhomes would be way down peoples priorities right now.

Never did like sharing facilities, the point of a having a motor home is to be self sufficient to me.

My biggest concern is that a sudden large increase in numbers of ‘learners’ who may behave improperly in terms of parking discretely, setting up camps and worst of all if a proportion of them act as badly as many seem to have done at resorts and beauty spots, then our future access and our standing in the eyes of the public could be damaged, more than it currently is.
At least in the past our numbers have grown steadily but probably organically and newcomers can see good practice as they get more experienced in their initial years.
