Go for it my freind, life is not all about work.
Apart from getting married my best memories are the ones i made whilst having adventures on the road.If you can semi retire sell up and go full timing as we intend to do dont be bogged down by possesions or bricks and mortar. We live in a lovely spot with a lovely view over the coast and sea, but as far as we are concerned we aint working to 65 to pay for the thing.
Im 38 and maybe im having a mid life crisis too!!

Life is too short, go and make happy memories together!!
Im lucky as hell though as my wife feels exactly the same as i do,maybe its our starsign being the same:D

I would also agree with the post above and go for a Hymer.

is it possible to get a hymer for that budget ? ( 5-8k? )

I'm going to come and get you in July.... i know where you live, Devon somewhere....;) Oh hang on I wasnt apologising to you so get stuffed:D

If you had not wasted your time going to school and fulltimed with your parents you would have possibly known Devon is a pretty big place :D:D:D:D

Home education is a pretty hot subject, investigate it thoroughly. There are new laws being pushed through parlymint at the moment. I am pro home education but its not just an excuse to be free, its for life, your child's life.

As to the social aspect who here can honestly say who their children (if you have any) are socialising with at school........

Oi hang on there I have already apologised to those concerned and I dont need you sticking your oar in. So go fook yourself.:D:D.

If your both up for it then do it. Its all I think about these days but persuading Mrs D to do it is proving difficult and we can afford to do it!

would everyone please switch on their spell checkers :D

I don't agree :D, however, my favourite of this thread is "tort" for "taught". :p

Please dont alter anything.....it completely adds to the wildness of this website; warts and all!

Re.Camper with a Kid

Hi,good luck with your plans to puchase a campervan and your plans for touring europe with your child,i am sure you have both thought things through carefully before you made your plans,i think you have a very lucky daughter!
You will find with your budget of 5/8 k you will get a reasonable self built motorcaravan.Personally i would prefer a well, self built one than a manufactured one.On examining some manufactured campers i have found some very shocking workmanship and FLIMSEY design. You will also find you will get a more modern base van for your money.
I made my own campervan and all the switches and sockets and all the other things were thought out before i fitted them.
Its nice to lie in bed in the morning and flick the heater and hot water switch on 10 mins. before you get up,i can do mine even when its pitch dark.
Goodluck with your plans and happy camping

i agree with the above poster regards a van, and if poss. keep the running gear as simple as poss. for ease of maintenance/repairs.

regards your daughter, so long as you teach her as much as you can and she experiences things and sees things on your travels go for it!!!!!as said one life live it!! how many peeps do we all know who have kids and as long as they quiet in their bedrooms with comps the parents happy, how many kids now have been thru' school with no education????

you travel and educate and show your daughter how big the uk(world)truly is and how many marvellous things there are out there, not just in books,

good luck;)

lucky you

hi there. interesting reading. i think you are lucky to be in your position. you are only here once so make the most of it.
i have built a couple of campers from scratch and done all the work myself. the plus is you know your van inside out. do you have the time / ability / inclination to convert.
last year i bought a 91 hymer 544. it's fantastic and well within your budget. it's been very reliable and plenty big enough to live in. there are a few out there so get looking. take your time and choose carefully.
good luck.

I'm BACK !!!:D
Been away for a while and thought I'd better post something....
My advice,
Go for it..
As others have stated, your little 'un will learn more in 3 months than 6 months in school..
Tour France using Aires and you'll be surprised how your little 'un will pick up Froggish, doing most of the shopping for you in no time, [years ago our 8 year (now 26 with honours degree, BSc } did just that,:) within 6 months of touring]....
Regarding a suitable vehicle, Hymer gets my vote as well..
In fact if you could stretch to around £10.5K I might be able to help you
Advantage of Hymer is you can always easily resell them if you don't like the lifestyle...

The one I'm thinking of includes a Moped/Scooter rack, so also eases isolation fears..

Proff,where have you been?
Its been too long, too dam:D long................................

Me been having fun !!

I've been having FUN, building me trike and sorting out all other stuff, managed to get down to 12 Mo'bikes now..
Just back from Germany after getting a very very late 660 Auto with Turbo, gas tank, genny and every other toy except Solar..
Took it in for MOT and all it needed was fog light moving to other side at rear..absolutely mint underneath and mechanically, mainly due to being owned by boss of a Mercedes main dealer :D..
Transit plates have gone up to €165.00 now for a months tax and insurance :( but makes it so much easier to import..
What you been up to ?? and when is next wildcamping weekend ???:D
