i no its the main season
but what should we expect to pay for a camp site
dosnt have to be the ritz lol
would like a pool and showers tho
and may be walking distance or bus into towns
any ideas on price and recomendations ?
i was hopeing for around 10 --15 euros a night

i think you are dreaming abit there . might be that each plus extra for the van. at that time of the year every man woman and child as gone away to go camping in france . thats only the french never mind everyone else. you may find a farm field signed for that but dopnt hold your breathe.
possibly inland where nobody wants to be . but if riverside its as bad as the beachside.

By the beach in Brittany ...

17E90 per night for site (one tent I assume, though hopefully the gazebo too) and two campers,
an additional 2E80 per night for each of the kids and 1 euro a night for the dog ...
Complex and odd pricing really!

A small linear site and stone's throw from a nice beach (with an island to swim out to, I think I remember, possibly for mad teenagers only!)
Some form of cafe/shop, a playground and washblocks ... recommended by David on here ...

have they got camp sites in france now? must say i've been in france at all times of the year and never thought to look for one.so many nice spots and now they have aires for water and bog emptying.

i agree. have used the odd one if on a m,bike but other wise just stop where ever .
inland it can be ideal . but you can usually find somewhere nice.

Some campsites in France are very expensive and if you intend to stay on one I would research them on the internet and get the up to date prices. You can pay £40 a night if you have a family. Some sites by the coast are cramped and on top of each other so check the pitch size also.

The site below is excellent but very expensive. Just to give you an idea
Camping - Camping Club Holiday Marina *** - Port Grimaud - St Tropez - Cte d'Azur - Var 83

I'm sorry but Alan is correct. You are dreaming. Your best bet would be the camping municipal sites. For that price you will not be on the coast and it won't be an Olympic pool.

As the others have said, there are many places to stay, not least the Aires. If you are on a budget it could save you 40E a night

Some of the municipal sites have municipal swimming pools next door and you have to pay to use them.

There's one in Saumur on the Loir, its on an island in the river overlooked by the Chateau but I can't remember the prices of the site.

It's a nice site and you can walk into the town.

ok thanks all i thought it was to much to ask lol
ive heard of a few sites down in blanes for 30 a night with pools and bar and so on so
sounds like france is about the same prices
hopefully we will find free places to park around france and the aires for water and so on

You will most certainly find a lot of places where there are Aires and water supply for free or paying a much lesser rate. If you look through the posts, a Member, called ZIPNOLAN has a lot of photos of Aires of his travels. Possibly a few other Members have pictures on display. You need to browse through the posts. I have been airing around France for over 40 years and have never ever paid for a site as yet. Good luck on your search.

Hi,

Last year we stayed on the Aires next to these Campsites.

Le camping municipal - Tourisme - Découverte de la ville - Ville de Charleville-Mézières

Le Camping L'Ile aux Cygnes ***

Arques Camping municipal *** de Beausjour

The pricing structure is quite complicated on all the municiple sites - with a family of four / dog & campingcar, they were about 30 euro's a night.

They do look well run, and it was use full to be able to use the laundry facilities and showers.

Non of these had a pool, Chamberry was on the lake with it's own private beech (Pebbles)

You will find loads of good places to stay.

thanks all its really helpfull nowing before i go
it will be me 37 and the misses 32 and our daughter 14
so should be ok
we havnt got a shower in the van so was just worried about using the solar showers on the aires is all lol
we normaly use them with the back doors open and a sheet across sort of thing

We found the 12v showers worked really well until we left it in storage for a while and it rusted solid. It got very hot very quick and started to smoke. Never thought of a shower as a fire hazard before that.:lol-053:
One of the members last year suggested a watering can which does work very well with the sprinkler on. We always have one in the van as its good for fetching water on an Aire as you don't have to leave your spot.

if you need a shower .just keep your eyes open for a pump up weed killer sprayer ,change the end for a skower head. you can still buy a similar thing off reimo .and a stand in plastic based shower pod .
used to be here many got used years ago in flats etc when showers and toilets were not fitted.

or stick a drop in pump onto a shower hose and drop it in a bucket of warm, though its often hot enough to want a cold shower

sounds good to me although we have some black solar shower so will leave them in the sun all day

and should do the job
might use a submersible pump aswell tho to try it out cheers
best not park next to a 40 k white motor home there nose will turn up lol

Every morning, we fill up 2 X 8L empty drinking water bottles and leave it outside the MH. End of the evening after beaching or loafing around somewhere we pour one of the 8L bottles of NOW boiling water into a large bowl. Have a 2nd slightly smaller bowl for cold water. A couple of mugs of water to get you wet, then, cold or cooler water to wash aw\y the soap suds. We have an inside shower and an outside shower but we enjoy doing it the primitive way. A lot more fun, a few neighbours have taken to the habit. Of course, it depends where you are. We like to be out in the wild.

Why not make use of the Aires as has been suggested and if you can make do with a sink wash (do you have a sink), check into a municipal maybe once or twice a week for a proper shower.

There are loads of great Aires, many are free and even ones with EHU are often less than €10 even in peak season. PLenty within walking distance of towns and plenty by rivers or lakes. CAMPINGCAR-INFOS is the best source and you can download them all for your sat nav. ITs probably worth getting "All the Aires" book from Vicarious books as well

we dont have a sink no
but have a big water container and a bowl lol
same thing

Thats all you need! Well it would do me. Women however like Mrs D insist on keeping clean all the time and she wouldnt be without a shower!
