Cambelt change

..oh, on the diy belt change theme (I notice you retired mechanic Tezza) but was impressed with a thread on here (I think) of how a bloke changed his belt. He cut it in half the long way round which kept the timing and cogs stable.....removed outer half....slid the new one on halfway....cut the other half of the old one off....you get the rest !! Just thought that was clever.....too scary for me lol 😂. Hope yours goes well Terry !! Maja07
It is an old trick cutting the belt in half and very easy to do, problem is I am changing the rollers and water pump so the belt has to come off, they are the originals so over 16yrs old, I think I have had my monies worth

Pump

Oh aye....forgot the water pump usually gets changed too !! Maja07

....is it just a case of making sure the crankshaft n camshaft don't move ? Maja07

Mmm We replaced ours earlier this year !

Only 40,000 miles.
But 12 years.
Given the "Horror stories".
£300 a wise imvestment.....I think.

Yes that is the main thing, I made a tool to lock the crankshaft last time, still looking for it:)

Take your time you have only just come out of hospital, there will still be jobs to do tomorrow.

Pretty much the numbers on my Peugeot 2.8HDi when I had the cam belt and water pump changed.
Peugeot technical advised me 80,000 miles or 10 years (that's from my dodgy old memory). Cheap for the peace of mind it's given me.

Colin 😊😊😊

Strange I thought Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen were all the same base vehicle.

Fiat Ducato - Wikipedia

The 2.8`s are :hammer:

I have a 2006 model Peugeot 2.8 HDI and the father-in-law has a 2006 model Fiat 2.8 JTD

They are identical engines even down to the stickers, wiring loom etc.etc. yet Peugeot is 10 years / 72,000 miles and Fiat is 5 years / 60,000 miles :rolleyes2:

The 2.0, 2.2 and 2.3 engines are different in each marque.

I bought my 2.8JTD earlier this year with 25000 miles on it at 14years old first thing I did was change the timingbelt (yes, it was the original belt:scared:). On this engine it is not strictly necessary to change the water pump as the pump is not driven by the timing belt!

When the belt was changed on ours, the pump wasn't done. 12 months down the line, the water pump went, so i may as well have had it done to start with.

After hearing of Gordon's (the laird) misfortune with a snapped cambelt I decided to change mine, all the parts arrived yesterday including a new water pump (which is nearly as big as my Panda's engine :lol-053:) , I have checked they are authentic parts and all is OK, I have the van up on ramps to give me room underneath as I am still tender around my middle and now all the covers are off and now the fun begins.

How long is it since yours was changed?

Your covers or the engine ones.:lol-053::lol-053::lol-053:

Did mine last year as no history with van, better safe than sorry, rather have push rods any day.

My Renault master has just been in for a service. I asked about changing the timing belt as it is 11 years old with 36000 on the clock and the mechanic said oh it'll be ok. I asked him to check. Lo and behold it should be done every 6 years if low milage. Got it changed as only had the van 3 years and don't know if its been done before. After taking the van in to be done I read this thread. With all the other things that needed to be done big bill. Its ok for all you mechanics out there to post about ways of doing these jobs:D
